Overbudget?

Overbudget?

In my current game my research of gamma warheads went overbudget - so I though why spend the same amout for research when it´s at 104% already and changed it to the minimum research (something around 6000).
Now my gamma warheads are overbudget for 3 turns... :yell:

Is there some minimum you have to spend to finally get the work done that prevents changing research to the minimum once it´s only 1 turn away or already overbudget?

Nope, it's random. Depends in part on how much you are investing per turn, though; lower investments give less odds per turn of completion. OTOH lower investments give more turns of research which means more chances to roll to see if it completes, which is part of why sprint-and-drift tends to be a fairly successful strategy at reducing research costs. But it does come with the cost that tech takes longer to research.

For a cheap tech like Gamma Warheads I'd probably just research at my normal rate and let it go to 150%, whereupon it will always complete.
