You can build one station in an unaligned system, Chernobog. ;) But without a planet to build sats, I believe that's all you can do. Maybe the Zuul Devourer could do more.

As far as requirements for trade go, you need the relevant xenotech. For anyone other than Morrigi, you need language level 2; Morrigi only need language level 1.

Uh, yeah. Never suggested otherwise. Unless you misread 'platforms' as meaning 'stations' rather than 'defense platforms'...

So, I'm prepping to assault my enemy with multiple DN fleets. Along the way I research Flagship CnC and Adv DN engineering (to get the Ewar command center). Once both those are done, I go into the design page and discover that neither tech is available for me to design with. I passed a few turns and even restarted the game, but no cigar.

Anyone know what's up here?

Ewar needs quant chaff and adv. sensors.

Flagship would require all the techs needed for barrage sections, which probably means a torp and a beam. If you skipped torps and are just using blazers instead, for instance, that will mean no flagship CnC.

While the models for flagships look related to Barrage sections, they do not actually contain torp mounts or require torp tech.

Electronic warfare also needs sensor jammers, I believe.

Yup the E.War section needs to be researched- but also the individual systems it is composed of before it can be selected as a Section

These are Deep Scan (Advanced Scanners), Wild Weasel (Quantum Chaff) & Jammers (Strawberry) :D

Trying this here first because it seems fundamentally a tech question. The wiki has this to say about Liirian comms tech.

The Liir have designed semi-intelligent beacon pods which can accelerate at many times the speed of any normal vessel. Once given directions, these tiny "fish" swarm in flickering schools through the universe, seeking the Liir to whom they can deliver their data. Like carrier pigeons, they can be bred and trained to respond to/obey one specific person, and they have the rudimentary empathy and intelligence of a pet monkey.

Are the Liir using a rudimentary AI in these pods or is there a biological component? Other Liir backstory implies that artifical intelligences have some telepathic signature to the Liir so I was wondering if that's how they relate to these pods.

I didn't get the impression that AI in SotS1 is not so much small and ubiquitous as it is expensive and carefully distributed. In SotS2 we may see changes to that model, but I would tend to think more in terms of expert systems and less in terms of AI for things like Liir messenger pods or Human node beacons.

The Liir may well have a biological component to the messenger pods though. That strikes me as far more likely given the above description.
