does anyone know what requirement must be have to have shield lv1,2,3,4,5 ?

Shields require Fusion, can also be gotten from Deflectors.
Shield 3 and 4, and the meson and grav shields, require Antimatter.

I have acquired shield lv 4. but i dont feel many good. because its not strong enough. it still dulls against energyweapons, and the shield is too soon to be dead.

for me, it still better use deflector than shield,even lv 4.

is there Universal Shield to Block all attacks and can be equipped in Dreadnought class ship?

I really want to know :)

Dreadnaughts can equip Deflectors only, no shields.

When using shields, give your ships time to rest and recharge the shield. Run through the enemy formation and beyond them, then wait until the shields come back and then make another pass at them.

In my experience, just as good as giving your ships time to rest is to present the enemy with a lot of other targets. A swarm of shield DE's with level 4 shields can live fairly long under fire...

Especially when they are AI command Phaser/Pulsed Phaser antimatter engine adamantite armored Hivers (an immensely rare setup) backed up by DN CNC and overwhelm bonus... and they are using farcasters <VBG>

Don't try this at home if the enemy is fielding corrosive missiles, I found out to my chagrin. I don't think shields stop the damage from those puppies at all; my ships were going into the red and the shields didn't drop until the shield section blew. :(

Personally, i don't like normal shields. From the few times i tried to use them in combat, i found them to collapse after only one or two salvo from the enemy. After that, the ship in question rarely survive long enough to get their shield up again. I don't think their current iteration is worth using, especially when using shield section makes you forfeit some needed firepower. In my mind, shields should be a few times stronger to be useful...

Shields are useful against slow firing weapons, like torps.

Especially since higher-level shields can recharge faster than torps do. :twisted:

yes...I find people tend to forget that level 1 and 2 shields are not late game techs :P Though in a certain expansion we may be seeing shield amplifier tech. :twisted:

Yeah, unfortunately even shield 3 and 4 techs don't seem to be much use against stuff that causes lots of splash damage, which limits their usefulness. But you can't have everything. :)

You need to use shielded ships in ranks, like the legionaries of the Roman Empire. First rank engages the enemy. When their shields are exhausted, they fall back and the second rank advances. This is the meat grinder that conquered the ancient world. They totally owned individual barbarian warriors trying to fight man to man.
