Wretched Liir.

Multiple strikes across multiple worlds, means I'm now facing extinction after generations of peace and prosperity.

Great start to a novella...

Oops!

Did you forget to secure an alliance before wiping out all the neighboring enemies that were keeping their attention occupied previously? Or did you do something to tick them off?
Zed's TARs (sample):
Fractious Allies -- Hiver vs. Hiver, with allies
Who Let The Bugs Out -- Hiver vs. Tarka and Zuul
Tarka Ascendant -- Tarka vs. Hiver and Zuul

Neither; I was teasing the game by seeing what would happen if I left them alone.

I'd secured a ceasefire with the Liir and was happy with that. We co-existed on uninhabited systems. A few Scout skirmishes on settled worlds, that's typical. I apologised if I destroyed their ship, but tried to take out their engines and move on. Their opinion of me was going up! I was, oh, so you don't want a war, then?

Nasty fishies took out two of my five colony cluster in a couple of turns, then another two colonies thanks to their Retro-Plague, including my homeworld.

So I figure if this was Battlestar Galactia, I'm almost at the start of the 2003 series, right?! ;p

It sounds like this is a pretty cramped map, if the Liir were able to take out your homeworld that quickly. If they didn't have any room to expand other than in your direction, that would explain it quite easily. They might like you well enough, but that won't stop them from going through you if that's the only direction they can go. :)

Yeah. Set up to be like that. 27 systems, three factions, the enemy have 9 colonies completely filling their cluster. ;)
