I am unable to get SotS to work. I am using the GamersGate version running on Windows 10 Pro 64-bit on a Dell Optiplex 380, all updates applied. The application installs fine but when I go to run it, I get a black screen for a moment and it returns me to the Windows screen. It doesn't prompt me to read a log file.
I've tried installing the Directx 9c drivers (the June 2010 distribution), putting the application into Windows XP compatibility mode, giving it admin rights, and I know this is incredibly lazy but I don't remember the other fix I tried, I think it was a VB install, to no effect.
I know this is very lazy, but Googling the issue gives me a whole lot of non-relevant sites and only a few. I haven't owned a Windows box for, um, over a year now and I feel completely out of touch with Windows 10! Worse I'm hospital IT tech support so know how unhelpful my post here is but HALP.
