Northstar in development?

I guess every idea an indie developer has is always "in development", however conceptual. Northstar was already in the making, though I think the latest info was that when NS is to be created, it would be started anew on a new engine. Then we had practically no news on this conceptually phenomenal game, until the hints of late. First Erinys posted:

The wrapping of both Lore Books is going to be a big weight off my shoulders, and will give me the chance to share some pretty big news for SotS fans. Tired as I am, I'm also excited. I think some of you will be really happy to see what's coming.

Which was enough to start watching really carefully.

Then Mecron added:

Hang in there zanz...the late autumn winds whisper words like "star" and "north".

This is not very subtle, as even I was able to combine the two words. It took me three tries, but I got there eventually.

Ideally, the two statements would have no correlation yet would both be true (greedy, I know), but you know, I'll be mightily happy if together they mean NS is coming.

So... is Northstar actually planned for development in the nearby future?!

Well they DID keep the Northstar forums up all this time... considering how byzantine Kerberos can be on these forums in general, THIS forum is perhaps the most UNSUBTLE hint ever

Its great news indeed. I'm still as excited for this game to be made as I was all those years ago.

P.S. OMG...years?!?...thankfully this forum doesn't keep track of how much time I've spent here like steam does. (if it does...I don't want to know

Not well 'cause they've been pretty clear that time marches on and the FZ engine would not cut it for N* any more...

I think I am ignorant of some history here. Have they already done some Northstar development work in the past?

They did enough work to be able to pitch the concept, but nobody nibbled. Fort Zombie was a testbed for technologies that were planned to pave the way for Northstar, should it get that far, but it never did at that time. Even back then, though, Fort Zombie was only a testbed; the engine would have needed substantial upgrades to be capable of delivering the developers' intent for Northstar.

There was most definitely some work done, probably not even an insignificant amount - as screenshots in an ancient interview reveal.

But Mec has stated much later that NS would be moved to Mars (now 2) engine when they chose to go on.

Probably Mec's intimations about news on this front late this year will include an update along those lines... N* is a bit bigger fish than their indie efforts to date and I imagine they had a few wrinkles to work out before tackling a project of its size.

How are they supposed to kickstart a $1 million project, when the average kickstarter for Kerberos gets them somewhere around $20,000?
