The next game has started, and looking to be an interesting one!

I've gone and taken a huge swatch of land, but Blue's got some really solid core systems. I've already scouted 3 colonized planets in two of his starters!

This is going to be a game of quantity vs quality! My massive thin empire versus his tiny potent one.

Which map is it? And good luck to both of you! :thumbsup:

It's not the size of a galactic empire that matters, it's how you use it! :lol:

Looking forward to round two!

We're doing small disc. Tarka (me) vs Liir (blue).

Game has been tense! My rabid expansion strategy allowed me to take a ton of systems, but my tech and trade have suffered. Blue went the other route, teching up and expanding more slowly. I pretty much spent today's play session doing hit-and-run attacks on new colonies to stall the evil fish. My fleets can't really win a gunfight until I get some new weapons, but boarding pods have been doing work. Blue's got shields, phasers, and xrays, and I'm still using mostly 1st turn weapons (plasma, drivers), and just started fielding mass burster spam. Huzzah!

Blue just brought out the BRs again, armed with phasers, and lots of them. Does anyone know definitively if reflective coating reduces phaser damage?

We crashed a few times at the start, but it stabilized after that.

Some wonky lag issues in some battles - ships doing the lag-wiggle, and one fight blue's ships all just sorta stopped moving even though he didn't disconnect.

Nothing game breaking but annoying at times.

The techbonuses file contains the following lines:
<TechBonus techID="IND_Reflective" beamdamage="-0.3" laserricochet="0.8"/>
<TechBonus techID="IND_Improved_Reflective" beamdamage="-0.6" laserricochet="1.2"/>

The Bem_Phaser file contains the following line:
<PayloadType>Beam</PayloadType>

It looks to me that Reflective Coating reduces Phaser damage by 30% and Improved Reflective Coating reduces by 60%.

That could be true. The Phaser beam has a 2 second duration and causes damage every 0.5 seconds. The reflective coating probably only works when the blue perma-armour does. My understanding is that with beams hitting at the same point on the target for the full 2 sec. duration (i.e. the target ship relative to the attacking ship is stationary) only the first 0.5 second hit is reduced by blue perma-armour and reflective coating, the rest continuing to penetrate the normal armour unaffected.

we have the souspicion that the steam overlay couses some random crashes.

a 2 round battle in the first turn crashed 2 times in a row shortly before completion.
after i turnd the steam overy off, we didnt have a single crashe over the cause of the next ~3 hours

its abit sad though, because i cant take screenshots without the overlay... so not many pictures yet...

Can you print screen and grab from memory? (control + v into a program like ms paint)

There are other applications that can do similar for screen capture, but they may also cause similar issues to steam.

It does. I generally tell folks to disable the overlay and run in Full Screen windowed and it improves stability a lot.
