Why didn't they just fire him? Why is he getting special treatment if he's clearly and by his own admissions guilty?

Also, should this not be in its own thread? It's not exactly 'women in gaming' news. Unless I missed something...

its relevant to gaming because we need to both see that we are not the most awful people on earth BUT that the problem is endemic to professional society. Women in gaming is a microcosm of the shit the good ol boy network creates in all sorts of places and we need to be aware of it.

Wonder if he did it voluntarily or if they 'strongly encouraged' him to do it.

Either way that's good news.

There is now a huge push to make his punishment more than just a slap on the wrist.

I wonder if Micheal Shermer is feeling a tad uncomfortable now that this behavior is garnering this kind of attention?

Truly hope so. The guy's non-apology apology was a classic narcissist loophole dance.

That Beale character must think himself the "Joker", wanting to watch the world burn. Anyhoo, these controversies always seem to have the opposite effect and now I'm privy to more authors I wouldn't have been made aware of otherwise. This Kloo guys books seem to be right up my ally, and Jemisins work sounds very intriguing! Thank you Puppies!

He's a truly awful and repellent person. In every way.

Yeah, just wanna discuss this again, because this situation played out and, yes Virginia, there is no Santa Claus, because Jian Ghomeshi is going free.

And of course, the judge bought into the whole bullshit about perfect victims and "confusing" testimony. Worst yet...it's not a surprise, because even taking into account that society has a freakin' problem with this, the judge in question has a well-known history of making this kind of ruling!

How this guy is allowed to preside over rape cases is beyond me...how many times do women have to march on Queen's Park before the court system is reformed to fix this (and many other) problems? No wonder women don't even bother to report their rapes anymore. It's less of a hassle to let it drop, move on and deal with the damage (rather than inflicting it anew by having to testify about it in court...with very low odds of success...take that into account with the numbers, and it makes it pointless to report).

And for the record, I know more than one friend who has done just that.

Some days I don't know whether to rage or cry...

...more on the central topic of the thread, turns out you were right about GamerGate being smaller than advertised Mec (not that I'm surprised):
