Black Panther

Post by Nspace » Tue Feb 20, 2018 2:34 pm

... is really, really good. It's a superhero movie that doesn't feel like just a superhero movie. It has a good mix of action, humor, drama, story and characters, possibly the best balance of all of the MCU movies. I also thought that the movie did a good job of creating an antagonist who scared the hell out of me but that I could understand his reasoning and see why he chose the path that he did.

Oh and Letitia Wright's Shuri made me happy every time she was on the screen, especially when she had her "Q scene". :)

nice! havent seen it yet but hope too this week. I am super thrilled its making tons of dough.

as an aside though, I have to admit I am getting tired of lines like this...

"It's a superhero movie that doesn't feel like just a superhero movie."

Can we keep the knee jerk snobbery to a minimum?

Agreed! Awesome movie! Okoye needs more screen time too! I hope Shuri's character meets Tony Stark. That would make a great scene where they disapear into a lab after getting into a one-upsmanship argument, and the other characters are worried they'll blow up the planet!

I'm not trying to be snobbish about superhero movies, as I enjoy all of them as fun adventures or popcorn movies if for no other reason. Instead I'm trying to get across that if you had T'Challa not wear the suit, this movie might not be called a superhero movie at all. Drama, action-adventure, spy movie, revenge tale, heck just plain Sci-Fi could all also be used to describe it. That Black Panther is also a superhero is just extra fun. :)

Planning to see it as soon as I can. Looks like it will be worthwhile.

As an off-topic aside, and I'm not sure if this was discussed, but is anyone catching Black Lightning?

I'm finding its turning into my favorite DC hero series this year.

Yeah big fan of Black Lightning as well. Strong material and unafraid to go to relevant places.

Very much so. Strong start and it has pretty much kept the pace. The main cast was well picked.

Saw it last night and liked it, had some powerful things to say.
Zed's TARs (sample):
Fractious Allies -- Hiver vs. Hiver, with allies
Who Let The Bugs Out -- Hiver vs. Tarka and Zuul
Tarka Ascendant -- Tarka vs. Hiver and Zuul

Same as Zed, except the day before. It's a little more violent than some previous comic book movies seemed to be, but that's appropriate to the plot. The portrayal of culturally-designed technology was nice to see (it wasn't all Americanized), and brought to mind the Stargate movie and TV shows that followed. All in all, it's a very good movie.

This is totally a superhero movie. It's a good one, too. Superhero movie with politics/palace intrigue type stuff in the 'why is this stuff happening' box.

Finally got around to seeing it. Was not disappointed! A great movie all around with a really good cast. Also it had an actual believable villain that was relatable IMO. The portrayal of Wakanda and its tech was awesome! T'Challa's little sister was excellent in her "Q" role.

Yep saw it the other night as well. Beautiful movie with many powerful scenes. Not sure what was "more violent" about it though as even the open civil war portions showed a lot of mercy and avoidance of killing. Also loved the tension between tradition and an evolving modern world.
