A subtle danger in Skepticism as a Religion

Post by Mecron » Wed Aug 15, 2018 7:41 pm

"Skeptics, who flatly deny the existence of any unexplained phenomenon in the name of ‘rationalism,’ are among the primary contributors to the rejection of science by the public. People are not stupid and they know very well when they have seen something out of the ordinary. When a so-called expert tells them the object must have been the moon or a mirage, he is really teaching the public that science is impotent or unwilling to pursue the study of the unknown."

--Jacques Vallee

This is pretty insightful.

Hmmm is this in relation to the claim by an astronaut that he saw an alien? Or just something going over my head...

Ah...OK because that is causing a stir in some circles right now.

Nice quote though.

yeah in general there is a vibe of taking anomalies more seriously which is causing die hard skeptics to freak out. Also there is a lot of clueless navel gazing about how the movement has failed to promote scientific thinking...and complete rejection that this sort of thing contributed to the problem.
