PD Cruisers or PD-geared Escort Riders?
Which works better in defending your forces from drones and missiles?
Re: PD Cruisers or PD-geared Escort Riders?
The most truthfill ansere in SOTS2. Depends.
But I prefer PD cruiser but have used escort and intercetors for defense before.

Both, pd cruisers defend bulk of the fleet out in front. Escorts cover weak areas in my pd net and or important ships in my fleet such as a command ship. Also escorts are more flexible due to their speed if enemy attack patterns change and go intercept them.

Re: PD Cruisers or PD-geared Escort Riders?
Well, it depends, I like to use PD cruisers when I know I'm facing large ammounts of missiles or boarding pods so I plan ahead and pult them in front.
When I don't know what I'm facing, I go with PD in all the small mounts in all my ships, and a few escort riders.
The idea is to specialize when you know what you'll face, and go full defensive when you don't, and plan for everything.
Also, early game, the AI and random encounters all use lots and lots of missiles and drones, something to think about.

This usage of defending ourselves depends on players as different players will use different methods. But as for me I use the PD cruisers to save myself from missiles.
making your point

I prefer PD riders to PD cruisers. They are able to respond with full force towards the direction of the missiles and are fast enough to fly out and intercept enemy riders. They also cant be boarded and lack the fatal flaw of PD cruisers not being able to fire straight ahead.

PD crusers can't fire fowar? You sure because you can fit any command section on a PD cruiser mission section.

Hiver PD fire forward juuuuuuuuuuuust fine.
For that extra-special "THATS DISGUSTING!" feeling make a strafe/pd cruiser as Hiver: phaser in strafe, pulsed phaser on every light mount.
Granted - if you're playing Hiver and you have access to that many phasers, you've already won the game

I was speaking from my experience as a SolForce player.

The actual PD sextion can not fire foward but could put a assult bridge on a PD ship if you crazy enough. And has for PD coveriage. For solForce this is our I handeld it. my plantary assult fleeys had 4 PD crusseirs with stardard bridge that baecam shields latter on, best engine of the time, all armour upgrades I had. Light mounts had PD wepaon of choice meduim(and heavy for the engine) where missiels.
Put the 4 of them in fron of the fleet and there PD fire cross infront of each other. This creats mutal deffense where each ship protects the one next to him.
I never had a missiel get through them and they cut through Drones/pods/riders like a lightsaber through butter. They where even a threat to other ships or plants with there missiels.

Thats great for a late game fleet where 4 cruisers is worth the loss of firepower but in the early game you are basically removing half of your combat ready ships.
