Hiver procreation is also far more controlled than that of the others. Things are a little different when "not having children" is a viable solution to limited living space.

What other race do the hivers relate to the most? It seems that Human-Hiver relations have become very friendly. Is this because the Hivers have a particular like of Humans or because both races are trying really hard to brush that whole Nova Maria thing and the accompanying genocidal war under the rug?

The main reason is that trade between Humans and Hivers has become very profittable for both races. Hiver art and music for example is valued by Humans whereas Hivers are somewhat addicted to Human's cheeses. Now, if supplying your neighbour with goods makes you a ton of money, why would you want to wage a war against him?

Well history tells us yes. Because if he has money to trade he has more money.

Also, new screensaver!

p.s. Why does the worker in the picture have a centauroid form? I thought that hiver workers were bipedal. Or is that a Hiver prince with a passion for cooking?

Human 1: Hmmmmmm......

Human 2: No

Human 1: What?

Human 2: Your not doing that.

Human 1: I haven't even said anything

Human 2: I can read your mind. No Hiver is going to let you ride them.

Human 1: Awww.

Actually, I'm a bit curious, I've seen some the images for the Hiver Prince from the Lore Book Preview and from Lindsey Wakefield, and I don't see the "Dueling blades" that are supposed to be on their arm pair of limbs

In fact, to illustrate my point, here is some art from the Council of Chozanti, it has Che'zokin standing with an upper pair of "arms" his dueling blades beneath that on them

http://nickersonm.com/sots/council_of_chozanti.jpg

As opposed to these two images which show them as centauroid like other Hivers, but with no dueling blades

to me this is confusing (more so than the lack of punch-claws on the coterie females in the horde-vs prester zuul coterie examples) is there a lore shift for this, or just different artists representing them differently?

Different artists depict things differently, but also do not forget the variation in Hiver forms.

.... those make one -really- wonder what might happen if a colony of Hivers was to be isolated long enough from the rest of the Empire in wildly different conditions than their race are used to.

Makes me half-wonder if that might not be a future independent race right there.

.... I'm not sure if that means I said something stupid and should be ashamed or asked one of these questions with "You just don't know" answers and thus should be scared.

I'm not sure which prospect make me feels more uneasy >.>;
