I guess I don't understand why. What it did in Prime, IIRC, was add two trade lines to an uninhabitted system. In SotS2 you could put them in systems after researching deep space construction and they could be available along with science and mining stations as construction options.
Oh right. The trade mechanic in Sots1 didn't require trade goods. I guess you could make the trade station extend the trade range but that is a great pile of meh.

And because there are no trade sectors anymore, you couldn't even build freighters for those no pop trade stations.

Question about the Orbital Dry Docks and Materials Applications technologies:
It says they reduce the construction costs of ships. Does that mean they cost less money to build, or does it just mean you can build them faster?

From what I've seen it means you build them faster, they require less "construction" points to build not fewer credits.

At least SolForce can't, though it's a bit odd (from a gameplay perspective) you can research that specific tech before you can actually do anything with it.

To be fair we figure out how some things might be possible long before we actually develop the correct materials for the job. Design is a very complicated business, especially on the cutting edge.

Given that it isn't possible to even build them without that tech, what purpose would that serve? You'd never build a LV without the reduction. Might as well just set their base cost to that and not give one.
