Polaris-style missiles exist in SotS2 and are a large mount weapon as I recall. They are in-between regular missiles and planet missiles for firepower and have auto-retarget like planet missiles do.

If you want something even bigger then there are always node missiles. I would not be surprised if there were more than one version of Node Missile in SotS2. :)

I had in mind the launch sequence in the angry Joe exclusive footage with the big ass missiles :D
I'm pretty sure those are the Polaris missiles.

Node missiles are also a cool idea, what do you think are the chances we see human LV with launch rails for node missiles?
Would be cool to enter a solar system and release a swarm of node missiles and node fighters to wreck the enemy infrastructor, might be hard on the carriers if they are caught without escorts though

It seems to me that node missiles are more like cruise missiles than oversized missile and nodefighters are for system defense( Mecron mentioning them traveling on intersystem node lines). Considering the fact that the entire point of giving them a node engine is to not need a carrier. Although it wonder if your able to put different warheads on the node missiles this time around (bio warheads or MWM)

The question is how you move them between systems, it seems like a no brained to mate the two together.

Of course we don't know how nice fighters will function or how the combat will run in a system so every thing we say is a WAG.

Well we already know node missiles can travel the main node lines. Maybe the node fighters are like system defense boats. They can't move out of a system.

They aren't SDB, they were explicitly different breed of ships...
As far as I understand it SDB are like raiders only on a larger scale so the can't be mounted in any meaningful numbers of carriers, the node fighter OTOH is a small ship so mounting them on carriers and using their advantages in offensive ops is expected.

I didnt mean that node fighters=SBDs. Although I think they would be used more as a fast intercepted than a attack ship because it makes more sense to use battleriders for the job of a fast attack craft.

We have no definitive answer about whether Node Fighters can move between systems (doubtful, under their own power) or be moved between systems (whether on a carrier, packed into the cargo hold of a freighter, or via some other abstracted reserve fleet movement mechanism.) Pretty much anything we could say on the subject is speculation.

That said, being on a carrier requires special equipment. Not every fighter jet can land on an aircraft carrier, or take off from one. It would not be surprising to me if Node Fighters lacked that special equipment.

Indeed...anyone who thinks docking and caring for a ship wiht a node ring is the same as one without one is missing a fairly large point.

Well it's all depend on the craft, if you can't maintain them on ships than you can't but from the strategic POV if SolForce could find a way to deploy a squadron of parasite ships with extremely high mnuverablity across solar systems for offensive ops than I imagine that they will.

After all, we know that node line travel is the fastest way to move in SotS (except huber gates) and it's logical to assume that node fighters will be the fastest ship in system from one planet to the other, that seems like a great advantage that SolForce will hate to not use.

As I said several posts ago, since we know squat about any and all of this every thing in this thread is just one bug WAG.

An easy way to fix the drone problem is have the drone ship have a massive supply. Instead of just carrying 6 drones into combat it should be carrying 60 so even with them getting shot down you'd still be able to swamp the enemy. I'd gladly trade my drone carriers already meager combat ability for the ability to carry truly massive amounts of drones so even though i can only launch 6 at a time i can do that for the entire battle. Drones should be disposable cheap weapons that are useless on their own and need a substantial support structure(dedicated carrier) but shine in their ability to support fleets and harass enemys from great distance with their speed.

Ships seem to have an endless supply of missiles which are pretty much the same size as a drone so getting an unlimited amount of drones with a cooldown between launch seems fair. You could make manned fighters have more hardpoints and perhaps some PD hardpoints so they'd be competitive with drones and you could always protect your fighters from drones with your own drones.

60 Drones on a cruiser? They would take more space then the cruiser itself - realism is not a thing you throw in the corner and don't think of it anymore ;)

And ships don't really have unlimited missiles, but a supply that is big enough for ONE combat round. For enough spare drones, see the upper part of the post - drones are much bigger than missiles.

Manned fighters? Battleriders are the closest to that you can get on a logical way. As drones have a size, which is a good portion of a DE. Bigger, manned stl ships are battleriders than ;)

I can understand engine limitations by why do people infer that to physical limitations? who the hell covers their outer hull with their main weapon instead of storing them internally? If you look at SotS1 drones you'd see they are not much bigger then torpedos and they could easily be stowed in less bulky shapes. If the current cruiser models do not have the room its a simple thing to design a freight cruiser thats filled with nothing but drone control and storage. Drones could pretty much be hexagonals with 1-2 weapon hardpoints and the rest being thrusters, you can now store them much easier and you could even have them covering the outside of certain ships like a disposable layer of CIWS.

Hu? Torps are tiny em field generators or even only forms of energy - not very "big" in a common sense.

1.) It would require much more space to store them internally
2.) Its easier to start/dock them from the hull

Edit:

3.) You would require some kind of opening in the hull - the enemy would thank you for that

Everybody that can't fit it otherwise. I present you Siege Drivers, tanks, battleships etc.

The internally stored one is the odd one, not the other way around.
