Now, now, The Empire would never station a major naval asset in an independent system on the borders of our empire for military reasons! It would violate the spirit of our treaty’s. That LV and its escorting fleet is commanded by an admiral with a scholarly interest in the locals, given the services rendered by our admiral, I felt it would be a nice vacation from line of battle duty on the other frontiers of the empire. I would never willingly break up the brilliant command team, so the rest of the fleet just had to stay with the admiral. This is in no way the precursor to any kind of military action starting on our part, it would require a strong sense of paranoia to conceive of such a notion.

Independent races sound like an interesting way of spicing up the game. Are their benefits primarily through addition of new technologies (gained by researching their lifestyles, culture, or technology), through bonuses to your ships crew compliments (Stranglers can now serve in your armed forces, bestowing a 10% strangulation bonus to your crews), or through some third, unspecified manner (Strangler Extreme Bison-cross redefines the sport of bovine motorcross, is a huge success, and bestows a 10% strangulation bonus to your economy)?

As the old Strangler Maxim states: When your only tools are your giant hands and highly-evolved strangulation reflex, all problems will appear to be the thin, lithe necks of the All-Terrain Strangle-able Bison

Well you can suffocate them, anyway. ;)

Yeah, it'd be a nice addition if you could settle them on a world you can terraform to their ideal (assuming their ideal is not prohibitive to yours), and make them a protectorate.

It looks very much like an asteroid turned into a ramscoop-powered generational ark.

Thanks, I honestly cannot remember what it looks like. Very rare encounter from what I remember, and I can't find any pictures on the wiki.

Do we know if Independent Races are going to have dedicated planets/systems? Like for example Race A will always appear in System Alpha, but never Beta. If system Alpha is on the map Race A will be there, or is it more like the random encounters from the first game where they could be anywhere? Also do they have different tech levels or is there a default tech level every time they are encountered?

Knowing how randomization for replay ability is a ongoing theme, I'd say your first question's answer is no.

Unsure about the second. Also unsure if the bonus given for study/incorporating each race is the same when you find them or if that is also randomly determined when the universe is made.

Do the Morrigi have any advantages or additional options when studying independent races? After all, they have been dropping in on underdeveloped cultures for a few millennia more than anyone else.
