Im thinking about creating a mod for Sots1/2.

Aim is to make the fights more strategic, sofar i will remove rockets.

I attend to make a rock citter(?) paper game out of it:

fight will be based on:
-forwardfire
-sidewaysfire (like old battleships)
-allaroundfire (of course you dont get the amout of guns like the others)
- forward speed
- turnspeed
- amost all ships have no backfire guns
-weapons with different damagecharacteristics (longrange, closerange)

The races will be (like in image).
Ships will have similar sections but with different specs (one race much firepower, other high turnspeed etc.)

I made concept drawings for all races i thought up, if you have a good idea for another one let me know.

Ships for Hu(men) are done (moddeling)

any thoughts are welcome 8)

Hate to say this, but you can't do that in SOTS 2. There is no way to import models into the game, nor to convert them into the format the game will accept.
Should be possible in SOTS Prime though.

All of that sounds interesting, though neither game allows you to add in new armor types to defend against certain weapon types. Might be able to work around it in some fashion with the Hardened Electronics tech (reduces emitter-class damage and EMP stun duration), but an outright protection R\P\S system, I don't think is possible.

tnx for the answer and the technical details.

for the weapon /damage thing i then need to create a game myself.
I already made a 3d editing program for creating biological objects (round stuff) by painting on "blueprints".
The engine i used for that has collisiondetection thats basically all i need.
just have to firgure out how to create half transparent effects like fire/particels etc.
And of course the AI is completely new terrain for me.

So idea to go on is to create 4 factions and then port the stuff to SOTS Prime.
After that i will continue with creating a new game with my models.

Here are the "fish" ships.
only problem i have to recreate some of the men ships because they are ugly compared to this new ones...

please report how it works on your machine, if you post results pls give some specs like CPU/RAM/Grafics

on mine it runs at @60fps(vsync active) but when many ships fire it drops to maybe 50fps... i have I5/16GB/AMD R9 380
and this is with 24 ships involved , no textures...
so this game will focus on little micro battles with few ships.
Although this idea is technically introduced i like that a single ship will count much in my game.

Also i want to develope other gaming strategies, much trading/diplomacy/player interaction to the AI.
Maybe you can mine different resources on your planets and you have to trade with them to get you things properly done...
If you have some ideas in any direction, of course post them.

- i chose another filehoster because people told me there were issues with it..

new :
- random ship selsecten for background fight
- first menues
- a starmap with moving planets
