Updated release posted for 4.11.2019 - I think I fixed that Loa crash. At least I fixed one more bug that crashed Loa :googly:

I noticed 3 downloads of today's previous version - if you were one of them, re-download if you play Loa. :any:

Unless its something you've done on purpose, the .dll file is not named correctly so it did not overwrite the original file.

Yarrg, you're right. My bad. New file posted. Just a renamed .dll. If you've already downloaded the previous version, just rename the sots2_managed.release.dll to sots2_managed.dll (overwriting the previous version). Sorry!

Hi again, just installed the mod and I encountered this crash twice: Included a screenshot and the save.
- It appeared specifically when clicking down a survey-window of a system.

Don't know if this crash is associated with the mod, because I sometimes encounter similar crashes at the end of combats and at random turns when playing unmodded too

Yeah, I get these too. It's a video driver crash. Do you have Intel integrated video like I do?

I find (at least for me and my Intel video) that reducing the fancy graphics options helps... You might have to fiddle with things to find the settings that work for you, but try disabling bloom, perspective, procedurally generated planets (try this one, since you said it was happening in system view), until it gets more stable.

Thanks for the tip, I will try tinkering about with it.

Anyone else here who have found a good solution to this? The main issue with SotS2 for me are all the random crashes that makes it so hard to play consistently (especially multiplayer!)

I know it's been said before but just in case it was missed, turning off the steam overlay makes a difference in lowering the crashes.

A few other things you could try gameplay wise is to limit the use of high CPU\GPU costing weaponry or activities. Psionics and Cloaking all kill FPS pretty much instantly depending on the number of 'colored meshes' that is on screen, limiting the time you select your ships in combat helps since the UI in SOTS2 is another FPS hog (Turning the UI off with Control+H I think it was helps but turn it on when you need it), limit the number of MIRV missiles you field and be wary of fielding all BR\Drone fleets.

If you've got some experience with modding this game, lowering fleet CP amounts helps a massive amount. Project Hiver has it at 90 as its absolute max and I've not had an in-combat crash (when not stress testing) since. It won't be very vanilla-esk though if you do this since the base game is balanced around larger fleets. There's still problems on the starmap with the planetary UI (when its a large system with lots of planets and fleets in the same place) as I think that's where the memory leak is hiding but its a pain to catch and document.

i have to add here, that in the countless hours i spend in this game (steam counts to 880) the crashes have not been that plenty, pretty rare i have to say.
for me, the memmory leeks that cause the game to slow down over time, and makes it respond slowely in general have been way more painful.

So if the game is crashing alot, it could be a hardware specific thing...

Id love to jump into a new game but id like to wait until the AI is capable of switching into invasion stance more consistently. So far, it was only sending occasional strike missions. ( and it was absolutely more powerful than me by all measures )

Seeing this made me start playing SOTS2 again given that I finally have access to a computer that can actually run it(my old desktop's graphics card hated SOTS2... it hated lots of things). Report from the front so far(Turn 135):

-Bug? The AIs had all researched reflective coating, the notes indicate the tech was disabled(presumably to stop them spending credits on a fairly low-value upgrade).

-All the AI's had active trade, high budgets and were researching at a fairly good pace. On normal difficutlty so I was able to outpace them fairly well but the biggest AI's had a comparable budget to me.

-They also had big reserves of cash. I presume this is WAD and they're using it to get interest and the morale bonuses for 10m/25m.

-It seemed like it took a little while for their techs to filter out to their actual production. I.e. the other morrigi had neutron beams, but hadn't yet prototyped a ship that used them instead of particle beam(couldn't refit yet, don't know if AI is setup to refit its designs).

-I saw quite a few upgraded supply/colonizer ships. It might be worth telling the AI not to design new noncombatant ships like this(except in a few cases, i.e. PD weapons, drive upgrades) as the tactical AI usually keeps them far away from combat. They also remove the old supply/colonizer design which might have deleterious effects on the AI's ability to expand and get its fleets good endurance.

-The Tarka AI had fairly successfully destroyed colonies of the other AI's, but hadn't expanded into the space it cleared. Would probably be better if it tried to push colonies forward once it thinks its winning or let it use deep space construction to construct forward naval bases and continue advancing.

Are all factions refusing to use it or just the Loa?

The AI's always done this. Once they get to a certain point their income outdoes their ship production rate since they don't use every planet to build ships. If you venture into Very Hard AI territory, you'll see them floating billions of credits by turn 200.

There's no logic for the AI to refit yet. Do you know how long they had that tech since my understanding of how SoS's AI works is that they update and prototype pretty much everything within 5 or so turns.

Bit of a silly question but did you see what kind of weapons the colony and supply ships are using? They should always be using energy weapons in my opinion since most 'stand off' weapons use a ton of supply.

AI can't use deep space construction or if they can, I've never witnessed it. As for colonizing, SoS's AI if I recall does threat evaluation. It may believe that it couldn't hold that world if it was to take it or there are other factors involved such as its colony fleets been busy elsewhere or the CH rating is too high to be worth it, or the worlds too small.

They had designs that used their newer weapons, but hadn't prototyped them and started producing them. It took around 50 turns between Tarka getting AP drivers(they were researching with 11 turns to go on 135, I saw an APMD fleet at 193) and me seeing a fleet that actually used it as the weapon for their standard combat ships.

Colonizers were using direct-fire ballistics(and deflectors :googly: ), supply was I think using missiles.

Hmm. Perhaps the AI should just be instructed to pour its budget into research if it has too many credits?
