MP Combat with mines in asteroid field: 0.5 FPS

I encountered a strange problem attacking a system defended by mines that were placed in an asteroid field: on my end, all the mines were in a stack by the outer planet, and there were invisible focus targets around the whole system which would take me to that stack. My client was also running at 0.5-5 FPS the whole time (presumably because of the mines occupying the same space?).

However, the two defenders both saw the minefield placed in the asteroid field, far from any combat or my forces, and had a normal combat. Synchronization seemed to be ok: I saw my DNs die one after another, but could not issue them orders because of the client slowness on my end.

It seems this must have merely been some sort of client-host synch issue, OR random asteroid placement issue. A combat in the same system the next turn with the mines in the same place ended up being just fine.
