Near collision with large mass that was not orbit-bound to the system?.. kind of like a near miss from a moon? They were happily evolving when this thing wanders through their system, sucks off their atmosphere, screws up their orbit, and wanders away again. Being hardy cold-blooded lizard-type things, a few of them were able to survive while the planet re stabilized.

Or, it could just have been the Locusts.

So the Suulka are where we go when we die ? And their racial "power" is you gotta kill them all in one turn or more rise ? And maybe the derelicts are their colony ships - seeds that are slowly maturing? And the liir and zuul were just reproductive aids ?

here is what i say. since the suulka were so powerful they couldnt have been destroyed by one single event(liir bioweapon) but that is most likely because of several factors, we definately need to know more.

it is possible that the von neumans are a very late product of an ancient ai rebellion, could the suulka have boosted ai research?(unlikely because von neumans use plasma torps.)

the suul'ka tried to convert themselves to be completely cybernetic(making von neumans) because of the liir super weapon, but lost most of their knowledge in the process.

they are possibly rock like creatures or silicon based. think about the system killer and the space bees(sillicoids!)

are the xel'naga!

No, they're lizards. They lay eggs, and have scales. Mammals have hair, and are usually placental.

Hm, the whole "lizard or mammal"-thing is moot if you ask me. Sure, they have scales, lays eggs, have a tail ect. which indicates "earth-lizard", but they also have warm blood, and internal organs that are more mammal-like, and indicate "earth-mammal".

But one must remember that there is no relation between the races and their earth-counterparts; they just resemble them in certain aspects, because arinn have decided that the evolution of life on other worlds will resemble that of our world.

They are not mammals, nor are they lizards - they are Tarka.
- But what name do the tarka call their own biological order and species? Just as humans call themselves apes, belonging to the primate order. Do the other races have a similar system of naming their own species?

That whole rant was actually meant in jest. We can contrive many complicated scenarios to give us the result we want, but the simplest might be closer to the (fictional) truth. For all we know, their psychological profile may tend towards nuking themselves back to the stone age every few millennium, much the same way America seems to pick a fight every decade.

Back to the whole evilness of the Suul'ka.

I've always thought of them being a race that has reached such a pinnacle of it's existance that everything is an concept, and every dark desire has it's place. I envisage a race where torture is viewed as a beautiful art form and who cause pain and suffering and death for their own pleasure.

In short a race so arrogant in it's superiority that it would allow the pathetic inhabitants of an insiginificant planet known to them as 'Muur' to rebel, just for the pleasure of savagely tearing it down and revelling in the crushed spirits of the populace. They just didn't belive th Liir could do anything to hurt them.

And as they are so psionically strong, maybe the thoughts of what they did could be picked up by any other psionically capable creatures, forcing them to see and feel things a Suul'ka would. Maybe these terrible thoughts caused the Tarka the become psionically deaf, just to avoid them, without ever having met them.

Well, I too envision the suul'ka as a highly technologicaly advanced race
- d'uh... they obviously haz biotechskillz, and the Liirian FLT implies a highly sophisticated original device, probably related to distrupting the position of matter relative to other matter (hah! take that Puny Human Science!)

But the trends regarding the general impression from the races in sots, I find it unlikely that they are "higher" lifeforms... I think that they will be both as awesome and as pathetic as the other races can be (Arinn don't do ûber-races...)
- I personaly think the AI are the most awesome "race", but I am biased because I am a Silicon Supremacist (I just wanted to say that again... sorry :) )

I think the Suul'ka have come more to terms with some parts of what being a sentient creature means, but less with other parts (isn't this true for all the sots-races?). And they will neither be uniform in nature, they will have internal variation and most likely also internal conflicts.

As for the general "feel" of them, I have often stated my view (shared by some) that they are more "detached" than "ravenous evil". They are describes as Winterheart, and Stonesoul by the Liir, and as the Great Masters by the Zuul, and the Screamers by the Morrigi.
- I choose (being the keyword) to interpit the Liirian version as a insight into their personality, the Zuulian version as a insight into their drives and desires, and the Morrigi version as a insight to their powers/abilities in combat.
Others may interpit it differently but: Screw Them! I am right!
ImageMWAHAHAHAHAAA!

... or not... :|

But because we only have second-hand knowlege of them, we don't know if this will be accurate at all, and information is very hard to come by (both canon-wise and in the forums...)

... and for the last time... the Tarka has NOT ENCOUNTERED THE SUUL'KA!
EVER!
It is stated earlier in the thread that only three races have, and there seem to be an agreement that this is the Liir, Zuul and the Morrigi.

The reason why they have next to no psi is probably a combo of poor natural disposition, and a long-term witch hunt movement somewhere in their loooong history as a sentient creature (seriously, they have been around a friggin' long time, they just didn't have a very rapid technological growth)

I never said the Suul'ka were an uber race - just they had a tech advantage over other races and were arrogant from that.

Never said the Tarks met them either.

But I can't help to think you implied that the tarka had heard about them, directly or indirectly. (I would count that as a indirect meeting...)

Hm... what is this supposed to mean, psi have a very limited range, so you basicaly have to be at least in the same solar system for even the most godlike psionic creatures currently known in the verse (Liir elders, Zuul) to detect anything at all. And theese met them first-hand anyway.
