Reposting it all in one place, since I was told to go to another forum and it turns out that this not that forum was/is the right forum so :p

I also renamed the whole thing, since The Culling was intended to be just Chapter 1, and it sounded lame for a title.

Chapter 1: The Culling.

Planetary Governor Marcus Camdon sipped his afternoon tea as his cabinet members and assistants jabbered amongst themselves about the bureaurocratese jibberish they insisted was important. The Biima Trinary system was a spectacle that his ancestors had done nothing but dream about. Only four hours of "nighttime" anywhere on the planet, which meant the skies looked much like "sunrise" or "sunset" on Earth of Old. Marcus leaned back into a more reclined position, sipped a bit more tea, and decided that maybe he should be listening to these over analytic bureaucrats were saying.

"...and by no means am I saying I don't understand where you're coming from sir, but if we can't put in another tax for the planetary defense grid, it's going to be practically falling apart in less then three years!" Senator Jardon Fins said through gated teeth. He was tall with a wiry build, and despite available eye surgery techniques, he insisted on wearing eyeglasses.

"The grid was built to last for fifty years Jardon, and it has been up there for less than fifteen. Why are we even having this conversation?" Lieutenant Secretary of Defense Robert Grenemen was clearly disinterested in even having this conversation. The droll tone of his voice as his burlish figure sat hunkered down in the ez char with legs crossed.

"Nobody saw that meteor storm coming last seco-spring! Have you even seen the documentation on these? How many secondary and even primary systems are offline on our defense grid?"

"I have not seen or heard anything that could possibly show that the grid is going to fail. They're all in the green, and you know it. You're just concerned that your committee is going to be disbanded because we no longer have a need for you fucking nitwits!"

"Gentlemen!" Bellowed Marcus. Both of their mouths sat open in mid-word. "Would you both kindly just shut your mouths? I am trying to have some tea, and watch two of the suns set, and you're ruining it. If you're going to bicker, please do so outside of my office at this particular moment in time."

"But..." Jardon began to speak in protest, but Marcus' hand came up in a silencing gesture. The three of them sat for another half an hour, watch Biima A and C set below the horizon only barely, as B had set many hours prior. Neither of them knew that it would be their last.

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

"DADDY!" Marcus Camdon stirred quickly at the sound of his screaming daughter. She was all of four years old, and all too innocent.

"Yes sweety, what's the matter?" He asked in a soothing voice.

"Daddy?" She looked down shyly, almost ashamed of her fear. "There's a monstaw in my cwoset."

"Aww, baby, you know there's no such things as monsters!" He smiled and patted her head.

"Daddy, could you peas check my cwoset faw monstaws?" She was clinging and clasping at his shirt like a frightened little animal.

"Yes honey. Comon, lets go check your closet."

"An' undaw my bed too." She clasped onto her fathers hand tightly as he led her back to her bedroom.

"See? No monsters under your bed, and see here in your closet? No mo--" Marcus Camdon was struck by a fierce blow to his jaw, unhinging it and literally ripping flesh from his skull.

"DADDY!!!!" Janice Camdon screamed as loud as she could. In fear. In horror. And Marcus could hear it over the ringing in his own ears as he tried desperately to figure out what had just happened. His head was swimming. But in the last few moments of his life, he would carry with him into the next world the bloody image of his one offspring being shredded in half.

As several wormlike creatures began to feast upon his dying body as he sputtered desperately for air, the horrors of the last few moments completely numbing everything including his ability to even move. He felt his heartbeat slowly dropping, as tears from his eyes ran down the sides of his cheeks until the met the pool of blood on the floor.

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

Halcyon Home Fleet sat on the outskirts of the system, escorting a small fleet of merchant ships to the Universe Displacement Gate, where LeuthCorp goods would be sold and traded in several other galaxies and even alternate universes. Escort duty was important, after all. Especially this one, as the Grand Admiral of the fleet was onboard the newly christened "L.C.N. Crowd Control", which was a stealthed destroyer designed for fast hit and run operations as well as guarding merchant vessels.

On the small bridge, Grand Admiral Kin sat in the Captain's chair, taking in the feel of the tiny new vessel. "Helm, these folks don't need us for the last thousand klicks, start the countdown clock for making a run to the asteroid belt for a bit of target practice."

"Grand Admiral Kin... incoming message from Command. Biima has been attacked by an unknown force." The Cadet's eyes actually looked sqeamish. The LeuthCorp Navy was supposed to be a "Glorified Merchant Marine", not an actual fighting navy like Solforce was in the distant parts of the galaxy. "... um.. we are to depart immediately for Biima at our best speed... Command out."

"Set course. I will need a shuttle back to the Conqueror as soon as possible." The Admiral proceded to step off the bridge.

"Yes sir."

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

Two LeuthCorp vessels, the L.C.N. Justice, and the L.C.N Kelablugra, had been on maneuvers in the inner system around Biima B when the attack occurred. Although the defense grid was able to knock out many of them, they still remained outnumbered.

The two captains, Jefferson and Tet'tchet, knew they were going to die if they flew in guns blazing. Both had accepted their fates. Jefferson, being the Senior Captain, addressed both crews mere moments before arriving back home. "We are not absolutely certain on the enemies numbers, and with the planetary defense grid destroyed along with the few freighters that were berthed in orbit, we must assume that we are going in against overwhelming odds.... As your Senior officer, and as a fellow Halcyonian, I demand only one thing: An Eye for an Eye. Blood for Blood. Tooth for Tooth. There is a very good chance that many of our families are dead. Vengeance must be ours. .... Bring the weapons grids online... all hands to battle stations...."
Image

"Incoming hostiles Captain!"

"What the hell IS that?" Another of the crew was sucking in air from across the bridge.

"Doesn't matter. Shoot first, and to hell with asking questions. OPEN FIRE!"
Image
Image
"Enemy vessel is down, repeat, enemy vessel is down.... oh god."
Image
"LINE UP ANOTHER ONE. Remember that the bigger they are, the harder the fall--And pray to god that the rest of them are that weak! FIRE!! FIRE!! FIRE!!
Image
"INCOMING! Brace for impact!"
Image
"Damnit! We just lost the Justice!"

Silence erupted over the bridge. They all knew that they were lost.

"Captain Jefferson." Ensign Sing said quietly as the rumble of incoming fire hammered them ever harder. "It has been an honor to serve with you." The entire bridge came to attention, as the vessel began to shatter around them.

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

News from Biima spread like wildfire to the other two colonies, Halcyon, and Serenity. There had been no contact with Solforce in centuries. They were on their own. And it seemed that there was simply not enough of them to stop the tide that was so dangerously close to their worlds.... Just a small fleet of ships, and a few crotchety captains. To the average man in the street, he could already consider himself dead.

But the news from Grand Admiral Kin's stunning victory would not reach the other worlds for days, nor would his foray into enemy territory against orders....

"Coming up on Biima's outer system Sir." The XO on the bridge of the L.C.N. Conqueror spoke in a crisp accent with nothing but confidence. Perhaps if he had seen the destruction of the L.C.N. Justice and Kelablugra, his mindset would be different, but this was not that moment.

"This is Fleet Command to all ships. Prepare for action." Admiral Kin flipped the switch off and strapped into his command chair and pressurized his battlesuit. Things were going to get messy, and very quick.

"Sir, Biima is now in range. Orders?"
Image
Image

"Send in the Destroyers to scout. We'll hold ourselves back until we see what we're up against."
Image
"Sir, Destroyers are engaging, reporting four massive vessels, and there are unknown satellites in orbit.... The Nova is reporting non-human organisms planetside. Looks like they've already claimed a new home for themselves."

"This is Admiral Kin to fleet. Weapons free. No Quarter. No Mercy."

What was supposed to have been a great victory, was far from that. These... Marauders from the depths of space were out for nothing but blood. Just as the crews were cheering as the last enemy vessel was pounded into debri, a massive fleet jumped in on top of them and exacted its revenge right back.

The only vessels that managed to escape were the stealthed destroyers... and what was left of Grand Admiral Kin's body.

(PS: Srsly happened ingame. I thought the battle was over? Next turn I was jumped by 30 cloaked cruisers. :/ )

(critiques plz, I hammered the last of this out while tired as hell. This is an attempt of playing the game while continuing a storyline. One painstaking turn at a time.)

Chapter 2: A Hope Lost, and The Little Cruiser that Should.

A bird chirped slowly and methodically outside the window of Emperor Althaeraeon's office. He sat in his modest by comfortable leather chair as he waited for the Captain and Squadron Commandant of the L.C.N. Crowd Control and her consorts to be escorted in.

He had already heard rumors of something terrible happening out there, along with the reports of the assault on Biima and the second fleet that arrived literally from the shadows to destroy Home Fleet. The Homeworld was currently defenseless, short of the planetary grid and the Crowd Control fleet.

A gentle rapping on the door broke his thoughts. He took a long, deep breath, and answered in a strong, but soft voice. "Enter."

The two LeuthCorp Elite Seals stood at attention as Captain Jonathan Leeds (Acting Commodore, Home Fleet) stepped into the room, and knelt, placing his right pointer finger and his thumb on the floor with his head down. "Your Excellency."

"I thank you for your gesture Jonathan, but right now is not the time for formalities. Please, sit down." The Emperor gestured to a waiting chair, with the appearance of something far more comfortable than what he himself sat in.

"Thank you."

"Call me Leu. As the most senior officer our Navy has left, you and I are going to be seeing an awful lot of one another, so we can set the formalities aside in closed company." The Emperor took out a silver box and drew a cigarette from it, and offered it to the Captain, who took it and bowed his head in thanks. He then struck a match against his desk and lit both of their cigarettes. "Dirty habit, Captain. Causes cancer. Good thing we cured it a thousand years ago, eh?
"Captain, lets cut to the chase. How fucked are we?"

Captain Leeds let out a very un-confident and droll sigh. "Sir, I witnessed Home fleet meet its total destruction at the hands of these aliens. They systematically wiped out every last ship. The only thing that saved my squadron was that we were cloaked and able to duck and run." He slunked into his chair. Seemingly more ashamed of the fact that he was alive than the fact that the entire Home Defense Fleet had been wiped from the universe forever. "I did disobey Grand Admiral Kin's orders, and did not retreat immediately as he had requested. We were able to take a multitude of scans and pick up the bodies of our dead after the enemy fleet vanished back into Nodespace."

"Nodespace?" The Emperor's eyes lit up. "Solforce?"

"No Sir." Their language on their communications channels was nothing human. But we can assume that they have indeed come into contact with Solforce based on the technologies that their ships exhibited."

"Solforce dominated an entire quadrant of the galaxy when we departed so long ago.... And now we have no way of assuring that they are even alive. What if these.. Marauders destroyed humanity?"

"We cannot make that assessment yet, though we should be taking it into consideration. The fact that they're using nodedrives says a great deal." Both of them sat in silence for a few moments. An overwhelming sense of doom filled the room. The Emperor hit a button on the underside of his desk and the Elite Seals stepped in and came to attention.

"Mr. Monroe, please send for Rae Juyun." The Seals exited the room, and the two men stared at each other. Both visibly frightened.

L.C.N. Nova set herself down in the landing bay in the orbital station Spec Ops 9, around the gas giant in the distant part of the Halcyon system. 65 workers began to climb onto her fleshy hull and locate points to place their surgical instruments. The Crowd Control class, wasn't even really a 'Class' of ships. They were indeed, space faring creatures. Their homes were originally a distant galaxy in an alternate universe. The circumstances in which they had met the Emperor of the Halcyonian State and the original (but no longer) CEO of the LeuthCorp Enterprise were anything but normal. (another story for another time)

Her Squad mates had all sat down in their individual bays. She had been through this more than once. Refitting was a matter of life as a servant of their beloved Emperor, and as the Champions, their lives would be forfeit if need be. That was the price that they had volunteered to pay after their race was saved so long ago by the LeuthCorp Navy. Massive intravenous needles were placed gently into her skin, "gently" being a very liberal word, as it was necessary to use a powerful drill to penetrate her tough hide. Her skin's equivalence in the metallic world was akin to the Adamantite which was laced around her skull. Not very much of her body was actually visible, but they were necessary for her to be able to move properly in the heat of battle.

"Milady Nova." The Chief technician and surgeon that would be operating on her today (operating in the sense of using massive machinery and cutting beam scalpels). "We're going to have to put you out for several months, but rest assured, you will be just fine."

<"I know. Worry not Chief."> Her thoughts echoed in his brain. She couldn't speak english, as her vocal apparatus was simply not suited for it. On the other hand, telepathy worked just fine.

"If you're a good little girl, we'll let you have a lollypop." The Chief smiled and she laughed into his mind. He stepped climbed down a ladder and across one of the gangways to the operation control room.

Seven Guards escorted The Emperor and Captain Leeds into the pressurized spacedock for Project Seraphim. A cruiser of the likes of which had never been seen lay berthed before them like a mighty titan. Bristled with turrets and missile launchers, it used a piece of the very same sub-dimensional pocket technology that made the Crowd Controls so very dangerous. Despite its outward appearance, this ship held enough inventory to make an entire Armada feel like a tiny dust mite hurling itself into the flames of a supernova.

"Captain, welcome to Project Seraphim. I was here when we laid the Keel nearly three hundred years ago. Engineering and re-engineering the technology for this ship has taken a massive toll on our resources in several galaxies and universes. She's equipped with the latest SGAPTMAD Drive, is as maneuverable as an LAC, and she utilizes the most potent armor technology we've ever achieved. We call it the Quark Stasis field.

"The General theory of the idea is that if you can effectively stop time, or simply stop matter, then obviously it can't hurt you. The secondary piece of this is the absorption layer just inside the stasis field. Whatever energy is locked into the field is absorbed into the capacitors and re-routed into our weapons array, making her even more deadly. She can still take damage, but she's a tough nut to crack."

"You say "General Theory"?" Captain Leeds was a little perturbed by the use of that particular word.

"Of course. Like many technological breakthroughs that this Corporation and Nation has come up with over the last millennium, it was entirely accidental. We honestly have no clue if it will work in the field as it does under laboratory tests. Too many variables that we cannot reproduce here properly."

"What's to take these Marauders from knocking her engines out, and stealing the technology for themselves?"

"Captain, the idea and the engineering of this vessel has taken half a millennium to get to the point you see." The Emperor cocked his head to the side a bit and gestured at the ship. "The reason you're here, is that I want you to prove it. She's not done. None of their kind are actually completed. There were to be thirty of these vessels made. The other 29 are in various stages of construction."

"What about a crew?"

"Although the ship has the internals to support a crew of about 400, it's going to be just you. It has a telepathic computer system, blocked using the wavelengths exhibited by the Maraukoans (Crowd Controls) to block out any sort of outside interference. This ship should effectively be nothing but another appendage on your body, as well as a state of the art internal security system to keep any sort of boarding party from getting to you."

Captain Leeds stood there in a mild stupor. If what his emperor was saying was absolutely true and not the nonsense he was certain it was, then why weren't these already done?

"You know Captain," The Emperor said in a sarcastic tone. "It's not wise to think out loud like that. Someone might hear you. First off, one of these vessels being built could cost the entire GDP of the old Solforce Nation for a century to build. With a price tag of half a billion of the Imperial Savings, wouldn't you think things were running a bit slow? Secondly, the armor requires an artificial black hole cluster to manufacture properly, and we can only do a 1x1 meter slab at a time. That's a separate cost."

"I apologize Your Excellency." Leeds blushed redder than a raddish and bowed in apology. He had heard rumors that the Emperor was a reader, but nobody actually knew.

"Captain." The Emperor smiled, gesturing him to stand back up. "It's not everybody that knows I can read thoughts. How do you think I've been where I am for so long? If I thought you were disloyal, I'd have thrown you out an airlock already."

"Yes Your Excellency." He paused for a moment. "Thank you, Your Excellency."

"I said, just call me 'Leu'."

Chapter 3: An Emperor's Gambit

Emperor Althaeraeon Leuthesius was no fool. If he did not attempt at least some sort of negotiation with these aliens, that there was a great chance that he and his colonists on seven worlds would all perish. Escape from this galaxy was out of the question, as several vessels had already attempted to use the SGAPTMAD Drives to exit to another Galaxy or even another Universe if necessary.

There were a great deal of scientists working on the issue, as it had never been seen before. That brought everything back to this meeting of enemies upon a battlefield. He would personally take the Maraukoans (Crowd Control Fleet) out to meet them. It was the only way to do so and still have a chance at surviving the chance of the Marauders opening fire.

His thoughts trailed off as an all too familiar voice [Crowd Control] entered his mind. <"You needn't worry about anything. You have made us all better again than what we once were.">

"Yes... technology that we haven't even be able to test. Even Crackpot ideas that were put on the rack up to a hundred years ago as too damned insane to ever bother following through with." Frustration ripped through his vocal chords. He might as well, it wasn't like he wasn't effectively in the gullet of a tele-empathic space whale who could hear every flicker of every thought in his brain. "I don't think you understand the implications of a unit called the "Dentine Shield". Back when I was a wee babe on the Earth of Old before I built that insane contraption with the original SGAPTMAD and ended up stuck in your jaw after the first test, Dentine was a damned chewing gum that supposedly protected against cavities."

<"Then that makes perfect sense. Considering that my natural armor is a type of enamel. Will your shield not keep my armor nice and bright white?"> The question seemed serious, but the Emperor could not help but to detect soft undertones of humor.

"You never jest. Yet... you must be." He said after a moment of deliberation.

<"I've been around you for over a thousand years. One would think that I would have picked up your human sense of humor somewhere along the line, wouldn't you think?">

"I think I totally screwed up by assisting in saving your entire species from extinction." The tone was droll, eyes rolling.

<"Well if you feel that way, I can always just jettison you from an airlock at any whim.">

"Touche." He drummed his fingers in thought for a few moments. "Reconnaissance flights have caught a large grouping of the enemy in the Alpha Virginis system. Set course Horsey."

<"You sound like a tired old man.">

He kicked his chair as if he wore spurs. "Giddyup."

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

Rae Juyun, Captain Jonathan Leeds, and Commander Maya Lochraine stood in front of the Neutronium blast door to the hanger currently housing the L.C.N. Seraph. Jonathan took in a deep breath and closed his eyes for a moment.

"I understand your feeling Captain." Commander Lochraine said softly. "It's not at all the same as commanding a ship with a crew. What's more... the ship will actually speak back to you in such strange ways."

"I know... it's... difficult to explain." Leeds murmured. They sat in silence for a moment as Rae Juyun finished entering the access codes into the machine.

"Sir, I need to remind you again that you run a risk of your mind literally melding with the system. It hasn't happened in any sort of sense beyond a copy that can later be purged, but I need to warn you of the risk." Rae said in a direct and emotionless tone. She beckoned them through the blast door as it opened.

They walked in several feet and Rae pulled several large switches, and the entire cavernous dock lit up. The massive vessel lay infront of them like a massive sea creature.

The intercoms lit up and red lights began to flash around the room. "Marauder fleet will exit nodespace in twenty seven minutes. All crew to action stations. Non-essential personnel to shuttlebays for immediate evactuation."

"Captain Leeds. It is time to go. We will assist in getting you situated onboard." Rae gestured towards the gangway. "You're the only hope this planet has sir."

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

The Alpha Virginis system primary lay before the five Maraukoans with the Emperor onboard. The system was a pit. Debri of unknown wreckage as far as the sensors could see. Sensor readings began to stream in at a trickle. Nothing here felt right.

<"If blood was something that you could smell telepathically, this system would be absolutely full of it."> Crowd 'spoke' softly.

"I 'smell' it too." The Emperor had a chill go down his spine. This place was a graveyard. It looked like there were dozens of different races' scraps here.

<"Fool."> A dark voice echoed into the Emperor's mind.
<"You and your kind are doomed."> Another dark voice, more vile, intentional.
<"The peace of which you seek will never happen."> A third voice.

Bracing his mind, Leu spoke back across the abyss. <"If peace is not your desire, then you will be forced to taste our fists.">

<"Your puny fist is as weak as the rest. You are no match for the likes of we.... Even now, your primary world sits directly beneath the massive claw of the Zuul.">

A spark of fear rippled through the emperor's mind. He had taken the chance to broach a peace, at least temporary, so that they could at least figure out how to get around the inter-dimensional flux that seemed to be locking them inside this galaxy. Now, unless the Seraph was operational right this second, Halcyon was doomed, and millions of lives were about to be lost.

<"I came here to broker a peace, true. I have no intention of dying for absolutely no reason. I do not view you all as a reason. I give you only one chance to leave us alone.">

<"And we give you only one chance to cower and die like the hairless apes who preceded you.">

<"If that is your desire, then I highly recommend that you all watch very closely. You are about to meet our tiny fists.">

<"Perish.">

<"Multiple vessels have just lit up in the debris"> Nova's 'voice' said in alarm.

<"Activate the Dentine Shields kids. Get ready to get pummeled."> Leu said as he braced himself for something fierce.

<"Just like old times,"> said Shchaer. <"To be honest, I was actually hoping this would happen. Please don't hold that against me. I have not had a chance to get my tendrils coated with the blood of our enemies in nearly four decades.">

"Now would be the day." He took a breath. "Lets show them who they're fucking with."

Uneverses? Galaxies? Time stoping? Living ships? Uber tech?

Definately NOT my cup of tea...still, a nicely written story. Just my 2 cents.

A little bit of history on my 'universe':

LeuthCorp is an inter-universal, inter-galactic, inter-system, intra-system shipping mega-corporation. Utilizing a unique drive technology designated "SGAPTMAD" Drive (String Grip And Pull Through Multiple Adjacent Dimensions Drive), LeuthCorp is the only trade firm that is capable of shipping transdimensionally, and therefore holds a monopoly on said transport.

The amount of resources that the Corporation has been able to amass over the last several thousand years in technology, general knowledge, and genuine scientific breakthroughs has for many intents and purposes placed it at the apex of what any space faring pseudo state would ever desire to be.

Although their operations are small in each individual galaxy [that there are any operations], the SGAPTMAD Drive is a non-gate transportation similar to the Hiver Gate Network, except also transdimensional. That means in theory, that if an emergency distress signal was to be sent across the transdimensional network, the Zuul in this particular story could easily be crushed in the matter of weeks or even days due to the sheer scale.

Thanks to the Trans-Dimensional flux (spoiler: caused by the Zuul's own Rip Drives), No LeuthCorp vessel can SGAPTMAD out, and that in theory, also means that no LeuthCorp vessel can SGAPTMAD in, either.

This means, (thanks to my forced progression of the game) that there are literally five tiny ships standing between the base world for LeuthCorp in this galaxy, and a hungry Zuul force spanning nearly 500 stars.

So in other words, it means nothing that Halcyon (Nation) and thus LeuthCorp (Government Controlled Corporate/Syndicate) is such a powerful Corporate Nation ruled by a thousand+ year old telepathic leader. Even titans fall.

(PS) I changed the gob file so that each Zuul Armada CNC has 100 command points, makes for fun.

Chapter 4: A Tale of Two Worlds

Silence gripped the cozy 'bridge' of the L.C.N. Crowd Control. In order to be a sort of 'war song' for the tiny fleet, the Emperor had to put himself into a meditative trance so that the telepathic pathways between the squadron and himself, thus creating a powerful fighting unit that thinks as one.

<"They threatened to destroy us, where is their fleet?"> Asked the Emperor.

<"....the debri field is moving."> Answered Schaerezaud.

<"You mean the debri field is the---BREAK BREAK!"> His mind screamed out at them, but too late to be pummeled with no warning. It was no wonder they hadn't detected any single ships... these ships were patched together from the very hulls of their fallen foes. Considering that there were at least six different types of hull configurations from the looks of them... how many races had they slaughtered? How many worlds? These thoughts ran through his mind in the split of a split second before Crowd Control was pummeled.
Image
Crowd whirled like a dervish for a few moments before regaining control. All five at once whipped around to meet the onslaught and poured fire into the juggernauts at their very best.
Image
Image

There was an immediate understanding from the Emperor that one of two things would happen: One, he was likely doomed, as was every one of his people. Two, he would have to kill every "Zuul" in the galaxy. The silence of the bridge cascaded over him as the tremors and vibrations of the ship shook his bones as a barrage of torpedoes slammed into Crowd's hull.
Image
Image

The first of the larger vessels exploded, and as the tiny fleet maneuvered through the debris another started to tear apart.
Image

After a mere four minutes of intense fighting, the enemy's fleet lay scattered and ruined. As the last vessel was destroyed, the Emperor came out of his trance and observed with his eyes what his mind already knew. There was a human settlement on this planet.... a long time ago. Poor souls.
Image

"Burn the planet. Leave nothing alive. When the next Zuul fleet arrives on sight, I want them to observe what our fists can dish out.... once everything is dead, set course for home at best speed."

<"As you wish.">

"Initiating Psycho-Know Generator." The computer chimed in a sweet, articulate voice. "Brain wave induction intiating. Welcome aboard LeuthCorp Naval Officer Captain Jonathan Leeds, ID number B14 dash 171 dash 446 dash Alpha Baker dash AA19 dash 2 dash 1 dash Omega dash F dash 10. Passcode Fluffythekitten dash x14 dash 19 dash vornaccio."

"Thank you Seraph." He responded cordially. For the last several months he had trained hard in a PKG identical to this one. Everything should be reflex at this point. He shut his eyes and let his thoughts take over everything. Maya Lochraine and Rae Juyun saluted from the bay control room. He watched in the viewscreen as their arms came to their heads as they stood to attention. The green light for the bay unpressurized flicked on and he thought "open the door". The large bay doors opened up and the engines kicked in slow.

"Captain, the two converted mega-freighters have just sent word that the enemy forces have just jumped in system, they are engaging. Please urry--good luck and god speed sir." Maya Lochraine's voice said over the com. Jonathan took a deep breath and tried as best as he could to meld. The L.C.N. Seraph's drives lit up full bore and in an instant he was gone, heading directly back to the inner system.

Two massive freighters pulled away from low orbit of Halcyon Prime. Both had been equipped with an AI that would annihilate any non-friendlies, and crews removed. Nobody expected these two vessels to survive, just delay the inevitable a little longer. Every moment would count. One by one, the Marauders flooded into the system.

No signal was sent. No signal received. Just a sudden outpour of fire.

Within moments, unfortunately, both freighters were disabled and sent drifting into the abyss.
Image

As the guns from the enemy fleets began to turn towards the planet, the Seraph arrived practically in the center of the enemy fleet and wasted no time painting targets and firing mercilessly.
Image
Image

One after another, the Seraph cut through the enemy fleet almost too easily. Like a molten knife through already melted butter.
Image
Image

Due to no real intelligence on the enemy, nobody could have seen it coming... As the Seraph broke right through the enemy line to come around for another pass, some type of super weapon was activated and the Seraph exploded from view.
Image

System Command watched their view screens and every hope of survival left their hearts and minds. Their resolve was still not broken, and the defense grid fired its first long range salvo.
Image

As they continued to close in, the defense platforms continued to hammer them with missiles and torpedoes as best as they could, as one of the ships that they hadn't honed in on exploded. L.C.N. Seraph flew sideways out of a rift and slammed directly into one of the enemy dreadnaughts, ripping it into splinters.
Image

<"You shall not win, puny human.">
<"There is nothing you can do to stop us.">
<"You cannot persist forever.">
<"You and your kind are doomed.">
<"The Zuul are as a flood of de--"> The transmission cut off unexpectedly as that very vessel suddenly burned into dust.
Image

"Boarding pods detected on upper docking ports Alpha and Delta." Seraph said calmly to Leeds. "Activating automatic defense systems, going into system lockdown."

"Captain Leeds... This is Commander Lochraine... Most of my systems are offline, but some of my guns work. Thought you might like a hand. With all due respect though sir, please hurry... the hull is entirely unpressurized, and I only have two hours of air in my suit. If I'm going to die, then it should at least be by a missile to my skull." Lochraine's voice was deadly serious with an entirely out of place twinge of sarcasm. Her ship was far from completed. Half of the decks were nothing but the sub-frame. There were no aft weapons. The engine systems were completely unarmored and even the main power generator was open to space. However, her entire front hull was complete, and so were those weapons systems.
Image

"Good to see you Commander. Two are certainly better than one." Leeds said gingerly.

"More like one and a half, sir. I sincerely request that you guard my flank, lest my singularity reactor decides to get hit by random enemy fire and explode." She responded.

"Will do. Lets hit it."

One after another, the invaders were pounded into dust, but an incredible toll was given in response. A full half of the Seraph's weapon systems were pounded into useless scrap, and Aristaeus primary reactor system was nicked, sending it into emergency shutdown and sending her drifting into the outer system.

Down in System Command, the entire room was cheering. Planetary broadcast networks had been broadcasting the entire battle live as everyone sat hunkered in bunkers watching in horror as all of their lives hung in the balance. However, nobody dared leave, and everyone stood vigilant.

"Captain... you wouldn't mind um.. giving me a lift, would you?" Maya Lochraine asked in a sweet voice.

The Universes are not parallel. They are individually unique.

Just took lots of pictures :p. There are free animated gif proggies out there you can use. Usually trials only. I had stopped writing this story.. there seemed to be genuine dis-interest. If there's actually an audience, I'll finish it out.

Sorry about that "disinterest." We were all hooked on the Donut of Doom.

Chapter 5: A Silence in the storm.

Chapter 5: A Silence in the Storm

Halcyon Prime sat in the perfect still silence of space in orbit of its yellow star. The debris of hundreds of 'Zuul' vessels and parts of the defense grid slowly burned in the atmosphere. The Capital City, Serenity, was completely blacked out so that in the case of any surprise attack it would be tougher to lock into the capital.

Most of the populous was watching the skies, knowing that doom could come for them all at any moment. It was beautiful though, as the thousands of meteorite like pieces of ship debris left flaming streaks through the midnight blue.

Two Highly Classified Assault Cruisers sat in public view in Serenity City Central Park, one undergoing extensive outfitting. In close proximity two the two, five unorthodox looking destroyers slowly "stalked" around, actually greeting the populous.

The fact that the entire planet was apparently doomed was made clearly public. Although there was panic, the emperor also made all of the battle record tapes from the Battle of Halcyon as well as the Battle of Alpha Virginis which slimmed the panic dramatically.

The Emperor sat across a table at a corner bistro from Captain Jonathan Leeds (Acting Grand Admiral) and Commander Maya Lochraine in downtown Serenity. Everyone was in full dress, and the media was omnipresent, and the restaurant and all of the surrounding restaurants were packed for the occasion. The three of them had a private dinner to themselves under a silo-dome before closing it out. He stood, and gestured for the two Officers that sat with him to rise as well, and then painted all attention to the cameras as all fell silent.

"My people..." He bellowed out to the crowds. "An enemy, the likes of which we have never known has sang its war song against us. Screamed out at us in the night like the demons they are. These beasts.... These... Zuul.... So many of our families have felt the loss of loved ones in the past several days. None of us from the common shop owner to the highest echelon of government even knew that these creatures existed, and now we're finding known alien settlements completely decimated and enslaved by these bastard children of the Universe.

"I present to you all, Captain Jonathan Leeds, and Commander Maya Cochraine. The two heroes that saved our world from certain destruction!" He swung his torso around, right arm up, palm utmost, gesturing to them. The crowd roared out in cheers of joy, and then a chant of "Victory! Victory! Victory!" The Emperor shook both of their hands and bowed to both in gratitude. Both of their faces flushed, simply because they were not accustomed to standing in front of the eyes of the entire planet. As the Emperor rose back up, he turned back to the crowd and raised his hand in a gesture of silence.

"I have to tell you all the hard facts on what we as a people face now. We know next to nothing about these beasts, except that their numbers are many, and we are but a slim few now. Our other two research colonies have been decimated. Cloaked scout satellites report that many of our people have been enslaved...." He paused for a moment and hung his head solemnly. He let the silence linger painfully. "What I have to do, my people, is not something that I take pleasure in. My heart aches for what I have to do...." He paused for a moment more, took in a breath, and raised his head high, chest puffing up slightly. "We do not have the man power to launch an all out incursion against this foe, and thus I have no choice but to systematically annihilate every planet these creatures inhabit.... And... that includes our own family members that have been enslaved." His voice trailed off into silence as he said the last few words, and he hung his head low again.

The audience was in a hushed silence. The rasp of a woman's voice as she held back tears was echoed across the crowd. The silence was deafening, but was broken by a young man who couldn't have been older than 17 years old. "I will fight." He yelled out. "I don't care what I must do. My younger brother, and father were on Biima. I don't care what I have to do. If they're alive, I want to find them. I want to see them again." The boy came to the front of the crowd, feet away from his Emperor, and he kneeled. "It doesn't matter if it is picking up rubble, or ripping their ships apart with my bare hands, Highness, if it means somehow striking back at the bastards that did this to us, I will do it with great satisfaction."

"I will also fight!" Another man yelled out.
"Me too!" Screamed another.
"I want my children back!" A woman screamed. "Let me help in kicking their sorry asses back into the piss puddle that they crawled out of!"
"What she said!" The crowd exploded out in a bloodthirsty rage screaming out against the Zuul.

The Emperor let the crowd go for an unclockable time. He sat there with a broad smile across his face. Filled full of pride by the voracity of his people. He raised his arms up to stop the roaring crowd. "I see." He said shortly. "I will not deny you your right to take up arms.... however I will tell you very flatly that your chances of death, should you take up those arms is high. Everything that everyone on this planet does is now for its very survival. We are a destroyed people unless everyone pulls their own weight and then some.

"But for now, Victory is high in our hearts. Tonight, every drop of alcoholic beverages consumed on this planet is on my tab--shop owners, just send it through VNet if you will? And for tomorrow, I am officially declaring as a temporary state holiday deemed "Victory Hangover Day." Employers are simply not allowed to demand for you to come into work tomorrow. Turn this fair city into its Antonym! To Victory!" The Emperor screamed out as loud as he could and then proceeded to guzzle an entire bottle of Champagne, Earth Year 1998. Probably one of the most expensive beverages in existence.

Jonathan and Maya looked at each other with goggled eyes, shrugged, and joined. They were all dead. They all knew it. So why worry?

Pretty generous for the Emperor to pick up the whole world's tab! Does this mean we'll have some drunken ships in the next battle? Looking forward to some more pics...

The Emperor knows they're all dead. So of course he can pick up their tab ;). And seeing as how every turn is a "year", there's plenty of time for the hangover to wear off.

Also, due to all of the hit points that these ships have (millions, btw), it will take years to repair. So hopefully, the next battle may be a decade away.

Chapter 6: Surprise Surprise Surrpriiise

Chapter 6: Surprise Surprise Surrpriiise

Admiral Jonathan Leeds wiped the sweat from his brow and stopped for a quick break. He cleaned the dirt off of his hands and stuck his handkerchief in a pocket of his overalls. Seven months had passed with no Zuul encounters, even several worlds out from the scouting runs. It was wondered if they would be leaving Halcyon alone from now on, seeing as how one single ship essentially beat back an entire Armada.

"Admiral," One of the civilian contractors saluted awkwardly as the Admiral turned around to face him. "I apologize sir, but we're having a few issues with the conversion relays on the forward singularity power generator... It was mentioned in conversation that you were part of the engineering team that designed and built the Alpha Series Singularity Unit. Could you take a look at the system analysis?" He handed Jonathan a tablet with all of the information and waited patiently.

"It has to be replaced." The Admiral said flatly. "Get in contact with the Ponderosa. We're going to have to gut one of the Seraphs at Spec Ops for the generator unless there just happens to be one on planet."

"If you could sign here for the request Sir?" The Admiral signed the request and nodded. The Civvy went on about his business. This wasn't good news. This meant that it would be another seven weeks before the primary power systems would be back up and running. Not quaint. Not quaint at all. He sighed and went back to work on turret 172.

The Planetary Siege Vessel, L.C.N. Cerberus moved slowly out of orbit of the Geulkijoca/LeuthCorp Protectorate planet Yiwafen. Yiwafen was the "closest" world to Halcyon, so long as you leave parallel universe distance out of the picture. Not a peep had been heard from the Emperor in nearly nine months.

"This is Commodore Deacon to System Command... requesting clearance for SGAPTMAD Zone to Halcyon Prime."
"SysCom to Cerberus, cleared for transit. Call the ball."
"Thank you SysCom." Deacon pointed at the helmswoman. "Press the shiny button, doll."

The String Grip And Pull Through Multiple Adjacent Dimensions Drive was the highest echelon of transport technology ever conceived and put to use. Essentially, it was the "Go literally anywhere almost but not quite instantaneously drive". The difficult part, ironically, wasn't the twisting through various dimensions, but rather hitting the exact one that you were after. Each individual layer of the fabric of space piled on top of one another like molecules of an ocean. Except that the universes were literally endless.... so far.

"Initiating Jump in 3... 2... 1... Hold onto yer' butts." The helmswoman said politely. There was a flicker of time that didn't exist, although everybody seemed to remember it ever so slightly in the back of their brains. That was normal. But... there was another flicker of time, and then another. And another. The helmswoman's head turned slowly towards Deacon, as was the entirety of the bridgecrew. Their brains were under the influence that more than an hour had passed just as they turned their heads turned, even though actual "time" that had passed was next to zero. This was most definitely not normal.

As their mouths moved and their vocal chords vibrated, their voices came out so slowly and traveled to each other's ears so slowly that it was entirely impossible to understand one another. The communications tech routed all of the computer systems to read on the main holoscreen like a chat screen. At least simple electronic signals were able to travel nearly as fast as their brains which sped their communications process by several magnitudes.

"What is going on?" Nobody could tell who was typing.
"The u-wave into Halcyon's space is ...corrupted."
"We are still moving, it's just slow. Very slow."
"Charge up the main cannon. Overcharge the capacitors, and redirect the SGAPTMAD wave directly to the cannon."
"That could kill us."
"Doesn't matter. Better than this."
"Point."

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

Nova, L.C.N. Nova, opened her eyes from a nap in the sunny wildwheat fields. They narrowed slightly as she picked up a telepathic jumbled signal from deep in space. She curled her tendrils under her and gave a mighty lunge, launching her like a bullet straight into the skies.

<"What is it Nova?"> Schearezaud asked.
<"There's something out there... and it's human."> She responded.
<"I feel it too."> Crowd responded out of the blue.
<"As do we."> Wraith and Defect said. We are on our way.

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

The creaking groan of the large hull undergoing stress was a sound in a slowed environment. The sound was so much like the wailing cry of a newborn through a voice alteration device set to slow motion.

"It feels like we've been in here for days."
"Deacon, forward hull has begun its breach into normal space."
"How satisfying to watch for the next 80 mind hours or so."

<"There! Bearing 298 by 112 by 74"> Wraith's mind voice yelled out.
<"Converge. Its hull composition is one of ours."> Crowd said after he finished a quick scan and analysis.
<"It's moving very slowly, give it a tug."> All five of them threw their tendrils through the hull and engaged their drives.

"That looks like the Emperor's Consort."
"Send a signal for them to break away. Count to 20 in your mind after sending the signal before initiating the main gun."

<"Signal to break away, follow.">

"They've broken off... firing in 5." It made absolutely no sound. The entire weapon array burst with the power of an entire star cluster. The explosion sent a burst of u-wave radiation that ripped a whole large enough for the Cerberus to go through entirely.

"Testing one two three." Commodore Beacon said aloud. "Well how about that. Looks like we're out. Check our coordinates."

"Halcyon Space."

"Open a channel to SysCom."

"Sir, Platinum Channel request."

"Platinum?"

"That's what it says."

"Um. Ok. Never heard of Platinum." The holovid sprang to life, beyond a shadow of a doubt, it was the Emperor with Admiral Leeds behind him. Both of them were in overalls, and covered in dirt and grease.

"This is Emperor Althaeraeon. This is an unexpected surprise. Please feel free to introduce yourself."

"Commodore Wichuda Deacon. Pleased to make your acquaintance your highness. Nobody has heard from you in nearly a year, and there has been great concern. Judging from the difficulty we had in getting here, our guess is that you're having problems getting out."

"You would be correct. If you would like, feel free to meet with what's left our local Armed forces this evening at the Palace. I will have SysCom clear you an orbital zone to park in."

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

Commodore Deacon's shuttle landed on the palace grounds a quarter of a kilometer from the Palace itself. As he disembarked, he met his Emperor's eyes for the first time and immediately detected that there were so many more things wrong than he had originally thought. He reached the tarmac and came to attention. "Commodore Wachuda Deacon, your highness."

"We can cut the formalities right at the start, Commodore. I understand that you and Admiral Leeds actually attended Academy Delta Corona together... though you were a Senior when the Admiral was a wet behind the ears freshman." The Emperor said with a faint smile.

Commodore Deacon held his hand out to Admiral Leeds and they shook hands. "I believe we may have only met in passing. Congratulations on making the rank of Admiral."

"I don't feel as though I necessarily earned it in a proper fashion, and the circumstances have certainly not been anything approaching normal. I shouldn't have even been Senior Captain to be perfectly honest. But the rank does have its perks." Leeds nearly murmured.

"Jonathan, if your Emperor states that you are worthy of the rank, then I suggest you accept it. Unless you would prefer to be demoted?" The Emperor said smirking.

"Heheh... now if you put it that way..." He scratched the back of his head with a nervous looking laugh.

"Now that that is settled. Deacon... if you would like to accompany us? We can walk and talk." The Emperor gestured towards the palace. And the trio started to casually walk on. "First thing I would like, is all of the data from your trip. Thus far we have been unable to utilize the SGAPTMAD drive to evacuate. The fact that you made it through is incredibly tantalizing."

"Highness, that wasn't exactly simple. We set our coordinates for Halcyon, engaged the SGAPTMAD, and as far as the entire crews' brains are concerned, we were there for nearly five days. Onboard clocks only recorded nine seconds." Deacon let out a small sigh of fatigue.

"When I created the SGAPTMAD drive several millennium ago, there were some explanations for things through the ah...amniotic universal fluid... that we have simply not figured out. The closest thing we've figured out about it is that it's possibly the fabled "Accashian Field", meaning that it is a collective of spiritual energy, knowledge, and power." He telepathically scanned the Commodore for some kind of imprint for a moment. "There is a sort of imprint in your brain that I've never seen before. I request that you check into the hospital tomorrow for a full brain and central nervous system check. Send your entire crew down shift by shift as well. It might shed some light on possibilities of breaking out of here."

"Certainly.... now if you could fill me in on everything that has happened here?" Deacon asked politely.
