Cancelling Move orders

Post by Sentenza » Mon Mar 11, 2013 2:53 pm

I'm playing Humans (in case the race matters), and if I tell a fleet to go from point A to point H, hopping along points B, C, D, E, F and G, taking 12 turns total, and one turn later I change my mind, they are en route from Point A to Point B, I have to wait until they traverse points B, C, D, E, F and arrive at G before I can give them a new move order.

Am I doing something wrong? Is there some research I have to do?

I'd like to tell them "abort route at next point", so I can reroute them from Point B (when they arrive) to wherever I actually need them.

Nope, that's how it is for humans in SotS1. Once you are in the pipe, you are gone -- the orders from HQ that would change your fleet's course can't travel any faster than your ships can, so they only find out about it once they've gotten to their original destination.

By the time of SotS2 they are able to manage a bit better communication-wise. You still can't stop once you are in the pipe, but you can get new orders and turn around at the next planet.
Zed's TARs (sample):
Fractious Allies -- Hiver vs. Hiver, with allies
Who Let The Bugs Out -- Hiver vs. Tarka and Zuul
Tarka Ascendant -- Tarka vs. Hiver and Zuul

Perfect, that's exactly what I wanted :)

I look forward to playing SotS II then ;)

Thanks for the swift reply!

AFAIK in SotS2 you cannot force them to use a specific path though, except maybe by making them patrol at each system... kind of annoying having your support fleets merrily go trough enemy space because that way is shorter!

I turn off auto refuel for all tanker in fleet, and fleet stop at planet when it not have enough fuel to get to next planet.
