As I don't have the patience to sift through that massive Liir thread up there (:D), could someone fill me in on the deal with Liir and nodespace?

IIRC, they fear how alluring it is. To put it simply.

An unprepared Liir ripped a hole in the side of a human ship(with TK IIRC) trying to escape the ship. All from a fear of entering Nodespace.

EDIT: Humans can be driven insane if they look out into Nodespace. Appearently there is .. something .. Psychic related in Nodespace.

The Liir that ripped a hole in the ship wasn't doing it out of fear. They'd already entered nodespace and he was so enraptured by whatever he sensed out there that he couldn't stop himself from trying to get to it. He wasn't fleeing, he was trying to get out there.

yes, but they fear to enter nodespace for that very reason.

I do believe I stated as much. You even quoted it.

EDIT: ah, nm I see what you were pointing to.
Still they do fear entering Node space becuase of that compulsion.

Yes, I was just pointing out that the way you phrased it implied that the first Liir to enter nodespace tore through the ship and hurled himself into the void out of fear of it. Which was not the case ;)

You could even say that the Proliferate Liir tech itself is, in fact, cryogenic technology which allows Liir to be transported through node space  at least for human empires.

Like I said... Frozen fish shipments :)

The Liir could never understand why the Humans always referred to their transports as the "Gorton's express"...

I wonder how the Hiver would proliferate Liir. Their planets are all desert.

Hiver planets do have seas. They tend to be sub-surface, but not always. Hivers already have a tendency to dig massive light-wells which spill light down into those subterranean oceans; it is a standard farming technique.

Wouldn't be very pleasant to live in for any Liir ... not much sunlight compared to a Liir planet (I suppose that the technology by that point has advanced to form a foodchain of sorts). In fact, human planets would be the most pleasant as they are mostly water anyways (like earth). I suppose that the depths are black anyways, but I know in real life, whales do come up, not just to breathe (as they are mammals), but also for the sun and for various social activities.

Liir would be at the top of the food chain, not unlike toothed whales like Sperm or Killer whales. They certainly don't look like baleen whales.

There's also the fact Liir can telekinetically clean and fillet their salmon before they eat it. Psionic powers tend to place one high up on the food chain.
