How would the zuul have reverse engineered or developed their node drive? (I can see some possibly subtle connections between morrigi gravity manipulation and gravships to zuul borers, and human scavenging may have helped, but it does seem an interesting possible story.)

They went into the minds of their victims and found all the possibilities they most feared, in their experiments with artificial gravity.

They amplified those fears, explored the implications, and liked what they saw.
