Incoming questions

Hey there,
I've look through forums and videos and stuff, and still have some questions about SotS 2.

1. Will there be 4 classes of ships, destroyer, cruiser, dreadnoughts and leviathans, plus riders, or it will be like original SotS, but instead of DE there will be CR? Or will DEs be part of "rider" wessels?
2. Space stations, will they be upgradeable?
3. Why DX10 and *clears throat* Vista? (BTW, will it run on XP or do i have to install Win7?(I guess i'd have to upgrade my iron as well...))
4. Random and Grand menaces and stuff like AI Rebellion still in?
5. Most important for me: what are the modding possibilities? Are most features hard-coded, like in SotS1, like ammount of armor upgrades and energy levels and weapon mounts types?
6. Will Suul'Ka assume control of Derelicts? ^_^
7. Will shields be ANY use? ('cause, you like "it's either shields, or killing power" and if you go with shields then you're like "WTF man i can't kill solo thingie with this!")
8. Seen on some screenshot, "ballistic tech - 24 modules installed - 12% research bonus" - does this mean that the more weapons from the tree branch installed, the faster the research will go?
9. My personal roach-in-the-head, but SolForce ships look like they are inflatable O.o
10. Again, my roach, but i liked original concept of Morrigi tower-like DNs.
11. Why so little gameplay footage? ^_^
12. Galaxy map, is it still full 3D?

In the end, i should say that i liked original game a lot. And the anticipation for second part is killing me. I'm having dreams of playing SotS 2 and when i wake up i end up really upset that was a dream. (Yeah, most sequels i saw ruined my faith in game developing, except for Alice: Madness Returns so far...). So... I guess, now, nearing the finishing line, it's a bit too late to wish good luck, but still - i wish you good luck, and i hope that Lords of Winter will not be the last game in the series.

1, yes, DE are only riders
2, yes, stations will be upgradable with additional modules that u can build (warehouses, habitats, etc.)
4, afaik yep
9, i don't think so... but to each our own right?
10, didnt play morrigi so idk

1 ) Destroyers are no longer worth giving FTL.
2 ) Yes. See Atlas section.
3 ) Get Windows 7, it is better than Vista (which is no longer supported by MS as I understand it). And DX 10 is much better than 9.
4 ) Of course.
6 ) What?
8 ) Science stations.
12 ) Of course. Why would the battles now be more 3D if the strat map is not?

Edit:
Extended version of #3:
DirectX 9 is a mess and has fewer features than 10. Using 10 also reduces the amount of compatiblity issues with various graphics cards/drivers. Basically it is a better choice in every way from a technical prospective.

No more DEs

2. Space stations, will they be upgradeable?
Yes

3. Why DX10 and *clears throat* Vista? (BTW, will it run on XP or do i have to install Win7?(I guess i'd have to upgrade my iron as well...))
DX 9 is too limited and frustraiting compaired to 10/11, so in the future they will use 10/11, ergo no XP support

4. Random and Grand menaces and stuff like AI Rebellion still in?
Yes

The Devs have said Modding will be supported as in the first SotS

I woulds say yes as the Devs don't waste time on useless features

The Morrigi DNs are still Verticle rather than Horizontal but now stretch foreward like an arrow more

They don't want to ruin all the suprises, but there is a lot out there if you look around

For SotS I

Try Morrigi Shield/Projector Or Blazer/AM Void Mastery with Mk 4 shield ( Shield Magnifier and Quantum Capacitors) and Meson Beam /AM Projector or Blazer with Cutting Beam. Now what were you saying about not soloing things with?

For a fun DD AI/Shield/AM Void Mastery With Pulse Phasers in the Small slots and 2 AM cannons .. As each DD can take almost as much damage as a Early CR.. You Will be missed little DD.... A late game DD with all the shield Tech can stop 5625 points of damage to the shield, and takes 10 sec to recharge when downed .. and with good management ... Aka run away when the shield drops... it is possible to kill a Cr with a DD

DX9 is outdated. In particular DX10 is easier for developers which lets a small studio do more for less with it. DX10 requires Vista or 7. XP is really outdated anyway.

Shields are great in the right situation :)

You can get details in the stations thread. Basically you install modules on stations to specialise and improve them, and allow them to upgrade (which opens up more module slots, better scanning etc).

They're in the opening cinematic IIRC. They're arrow-like now, definitely still have that unusual look to them.

12. Rephrasing question 4: Will there be some sort of new epic menace, same as AI rebellion in SotS1?
13. Tech question: will there be situations like "Turn 15 - i already have A.I. in research progress"
14. Tech question: will there be some new power level beyond the Anti-Matter? And how much of TT was cut out? (and how much was added? ^_^)
15. Heard in interview, something about multi-race empires having ability to build ships of incorporated races. True/false?
16. Coming from previous question: Did any race changed their FTL drive?
17. Random encounters, any new, or just old ones? (don't know how to treat the answer to this question, though...)
18. VN! Any new menaces from those pyramidheads?
19. (not mine) Will SotS 2 introduce any new neutral objects, which are barely killable and provide massive damage bonuses but not conquerable (but belong to player who first brought AND keeps fleet into system (or player who threw all players away from system))? Something like jump gates to another edge of galaxy or high orbit ion cannon to shoot through space to another worlds or just some ancient factory which gives bonuses to player who controls this world. (Because playing as Hivers 2-3 size 8-10 planets could be turned into MEGA-FACTORIES and just overrun anything in their paths, without need to care about defending certain points...)
20. Any new features in Electronic Warfare? (i like my DE deepscan/jammer, newer leave your home(world) without it!)

15. The morrigi will have ships filled and lead by multiple races.
16. No, but the zuul can have access to the suul'ka's drive.

12) We heard nothing on this topic but from seeing some picture of a "strangler" and few other stuff. Safe bet to say maybe but don't quote me.

13) Not sure what you meant by already in research unless, you meant remind you what is still in progress?

14)There has been mentions of refined antimatter power level but nothing detail orientated.

15) You will be able to incorporate independent into your empire but the only multi-race I know of are Liir-Zuul alliance. They will incorporate Zuul into their battlerider and other sorta stuff. But bottom line I don't think you will be able to do that without modding, talking about mutli-FTL system. Oh yes I almost forget Horde Zuul will have access to Suul'ka drives. I am not sure if the Suul'ka drive are actually something you can build, ala engine section on a LV, or provided by presence of Suul'ka themselves.

16) If you meant from SotS Prime to SotS II, the only one I know for sure are Hiver which basically took their gate cruiser and will be able to "upgrade" to a permanent space station.

17) There will be VN but that the only menace i know will be making a return. Sorry Kerberos love to keep spoilers a secret.

19) I have heard nothing about that topic but I DO know you are capable of let civilian build mining stations. *NOT under your direction control* It is the closest thing I heard to being "neutral" as in non-combatant.

20) I would too. There has been mention of hiding and scouting during tactical battle having a bigger role. *quoted from one of the interview video floating out there*

21) If it was possible to get support for XP. But it won't be possible because so many features has been since obsoleted. I used to be in the same boat as you. I used XP SP 3 for the last 2 year ever since they introduced Window 7 but this year I just moved to Window 7. Is there any reason why you refuse/couldn't to move to directx 10 OS?

14, I've read Mecron saying (can't remember which thread) that anti-matter will remain as the top power supply (as its the most effective source of energy other than hi-sci-fi quantum taps etc... which Kerberos doesn't want to goto). However the way the races use the power will improve, maybe think about the top of the power tech tree being Anti-Matter Mark 2 and we should be on the right track :thumbsup:

i bet the third source tier of energy will be quantum singularity ala a contained miniature blackhole. its what the romulans use in the star trek universe as a power source i believe.

It was clearly stated by Mecron, that there won't be any singularity, string, quantum, ridiculous power sources. Only refinement of antimater power source and new uses for it.
