I'm a little confused how exactly this works. I understand there will be as many combats as invading fleets, and it was said in the OP that you can choose the same fleet for multiple combat rounds. But some other posts in this thread suggest that all fleets MUST at least fight once (comments like "colony fleets aren't safe anymore", etc). Which is it? Can you, or can you not, withhold fleets from combat altogether?

Mecron made no mention that all fleets must fight.

This sounds like an awesome change 8) It also makes module choice a fair bit more important now when designing ships. I think I'll be trading in my supply heavy barrage cruisers for torp ships. Nothing says "pwn" like shoot-n-scoot with enveloping torpedo cruisers (especially if you're facing Zuul :twisted: )

I think that comment had more to deal with the fact that with multiple combats per turn (and using enough attacking fleets) you can burn through the defense fleet before it can repair and maybe have a chance at facing off with a colony/constructor/non-combat fleet that was "hiding" behind the defense fleet. Especially since I don't think you can say, oh well there goes my defense fleet guess I will just not choose a fleet for the next round of battle & save my non-coms. Reminds me more of Prime when you got down to the tankers in the reserve fleet. At that point a slow depression sets in as you realize you arn't stopping the enemy :lol:

The wording on Mecrons' orginal post make it pretty clear you can, say, send in 5 fleets made up of 4 fleets with just a command ship and then 1 heavy full assult fleet. This would allow you to hammer enemy worlds repeatedly with your heavy fleet.

While i like the idea of multiple combats per round at a given system, I think you should be limited to using each fleet once (and given a pass option for your 2nd and beyond fleet options if you dont want to use other fleets).

Also, I think the "Escort" Misison needs to be established, simply put the escort mission would allow you to attach a fleet to another fleet, so long as both fleets have enduracnce, if the escort target fleet stays in a system the escort fleet does too, and when the primary fleet leaves the escort fleet does too. The escort mission would be even better if you could put supply ships and repair ships in it and have the supply of the escort fleet feed into the target fleet, as well as allowing repair of course.

My understanding is that the fleets limitation of attacking will be based on the fact it can't resupply or repair between attack rounds, which sounds much better than an arbitrary one attack limit to me.

Love the idea of escort missions.

Mecron has already said (here and here) that support missions that allows one fleet to share supply and repair with a target fleet will be in at some point. :thumbsup:

Does an attack round by itself consume supply though? I thought it was purely a matter of spending turns on a mission.

Interesting. So it's possible to burn through your supply before the combat rounds run out. What happens then?

I really hope these missions are in with this combat change... else this might be a little awkward for a couple of weeks. I also hope this doesn't unduly affect ballistics heavy races such as the Tarka and the Hiver too drastically.
