Hit point bonus tends to naturally go up as tech levels go up, and so while I consider it when choosing which weapons to pursue it's usually not a deciding factor.

Cost, on the other hand, can be an extremely significant consideration when it comes to weapon selection, especially in fission and even early fusion to some extent. Late game it tends to be much less important, but there are reasons I'm reluctant to rely heavily on missiles or plasma cannon early on, and cost is one of them.

And here's a significantly improved version. Use Data -> Sort to order the table as you see fit, and don't forget to modify the Tech sheet when using my calculation columns.

Hrm. I'm still using office '03, which does not recognize the .ods file format.

Well, I'm sorry, but I'm not going to buy Microsoft Office, unless there's a really good reason to. Open Office on the other hand is free and is only something like a 100 Mb download...

v2.3
Some additions:
- New calculation columns.
- I added a damage per range table to be able to compare more easily different weapons, and I hoped the graphing features of Calc would help me in easily visualizing that, but sadly the results were disappointing.

OpenOffice has Excel export. While not an open format, .xsl is much more widely used and more compatible, since it is older.

Yes, I've just thought about that. Here it is, though I do not guarantee it will work perfectly.

It would seem the infrastructure and climate hazard damages you give are in % - so when you write that a siege driver does 1 climate hazard damage, it does 100 actually...

Suspected there was some kind of scaling going on. Never tested to confirm. I tend to see the data as useful relative to itself more than as absolute values. Regardless, the values I used were pulled unmodified from the gob files.

I did get your sheet w/ calculations to open. I'm curioius as to what conclusions you drew from those.

Oh, several:
- Gauss PD has the highest DPS per ship. Not surprising I used to lose zuul refineries to pd tankers when pd still did damage to ships.
- The most environmentally unfriendly weapon is the missile (but we kind of knew this already).
- Mass Drivers are the best medium slot choice to kill pop.
- If you want to completely preserve infrastructure (taking over a homeworld for instance), use "green" weapons : plasma or green laser!
- But if you want it done fast, with minimizing damage, then get Heavy Emitters (or assault shuttles, obviously).
- Despite looking impressive, Heavy Beams (and their upgrades) aren't the fastest way to kill pop, advanced assault shuttles are (or 4/5 meson beams per CR).
- Double phaser is better than Particle Beam.
- If the opponent has no reflective coating, double x-ray is better than phasers.
- Shotgun has one of the highest dps of the game. And armor penetration is the same as Heavy Drivers.
- Heavy beams don't have that high of a DPS.
- Missiles are the lowest dedicated dps weapons in the game.
- Node Missile damage radius is bigger than that of a Nanite Cloud.
There might be other interesting facts that I've found, but I don't remember them now.

When castewarkp sticks something, it stays stuck. Besides, how else are we going to get our nerd on?
