They are named and you assign the names. If you don't assign a name they get assigned a number to use for their name.

Xrei...lil insight from the land of the top of the bell curve...your entire post boiled down to the rest of us as "We are not 'flashers'! We are 'exposures'...Totally different!!"

Re: Incoming questions
I must admit, re reading Xreis post and replacing those two words did make me chuckle

Oh please.
I made this thread for asking questions, not for "Furries VS MLP-fans VS the World" subtle holy wars.

The greatest irony of Iron Savior is that it was actually made of steel.
Re: Incoming questions
I had to do a double take because I thought Mec had written "Ok Furies, shoo back in the barn."

Our lives are not our own. From womb to tomb, we are bound to others. Past and present. And by each crime and every kindness, we birth our future.

Might have caught a little flak from Arinn in that event.

Ponies have a tendency to derail threads. xP No one expects the MLP inquisition I guess.
So to get BACK on topic while I resist the urge to comment further on the issue...
Wait this is a question thread that I can't comment or answer virtually any of the questions asked...

Re: Incoming questions
back on topic with a few small questions:
1, will modules stick out of the ship (i.e the hawkeye module manifesting as a tiny radar dish on the bridge) or will they be completely internal and therefore invisible?
2, if a fleet is stranded due to a supply ship being killed, will we have to have another admiral taking a supply ship to them, or can the supply ship do the job on its own?

Re: Incoming questions
modules are visible...otherwise they would be "options"
fleets always reserve enough supply to crawl home.

Re: Incoming questions
Talking about supplies, I have a doubt about fuel and operational range.
The military starbases have a support range, but I am unsure about what exactly does that mean:
a) Fleets can only travel within its borders, spending fuel;
b) There is no longer "fuel" as we seen In SoTS1, and the maximum distance any fleet can go is its associated starbase support range;
c) Ships CAN go beyond its associated starbase support range, and starts to spend fuel after it leaves its range?
And I just remembered: Is the Cruiser Equivalent value of any given station a hard cap, or you can go beyond it, but sustaining some kind of penalty (increased upkeep, reduced effectiveness, etc)

ok... bad example...
what I mean is would a sufficiently small fleet on a sufficiently simple mission be able to operate without an admiral?
things like I wanna bring two cruisers from my shipyard to a frontline garrison, would I need an admiral for that?

I'm guessing you'll be able to transfer ships between fleets, but I believe a fleet (with an Admiral) will be the smallest (and probably only) unit of general ship use.
Re: Incoming questions
Okay, now I'm looking forward to that one awesome chance I have of sniping off a Leviathan whilst it is traveling to its escort fleet
